Door Panel Fastener Question

I just pulled the door panels off of my '91 to send the amps off for repair and to add the door thingies and I noticed that some of the door panel lower tabs have been broken off. I plan on repairing the tabs but unfortunately the screws were missing as well. I know most of the hardware on the NSX has special coatings to prevent galvanic corrosion (due to dissimilar metals).... so are these fasteners "special" in any way and if so, where would be a good place to find them? I did a few searches and couldn't seem to hit on a good key word or phrase. Thanks.

I went to the junk yard and on any honda they use the same screws,

I have a coffee can filled to the brim with every screw size honda offers.

cost me nothing fill you toolbox up and be done.

I have had no issues with galvonic blah blah you were talking about on my car.

and your galvonic blah blah would only apply if your car is parked in a damp/humid area.

as for the tabs on the door panels. get your self some black plastic from anything and use a soildering gun to melt and form new tabs. I have done this lots of times including my NSX. when you add more plastic to an old tab it will never break again. they call it plastic welding. its easy.

and any hairline fractures in the plastic that you notice you can use that same soildering gun to melt the cracks and make them strong again.

Cool, thanks. I guess I should've looked a little more closely.... is the inner door panel steel with just an aluminum outer skin? I just figured that it was entirely aluminum (duh). A quick check with a magnet when I get home and I'll know.

Blah, blah warning: Galvanic corrosion is real...even in dry environments. Moist environments will hasten the corrosion since the moisture will increase the conductivity between the anode and cathode materials but eventually it will corrode (sometimes very slowly). I have been designing airplanes & helicopters for 20 years and I see it regularly on older planes in for service. Obviously if the inner panel is steel then it is not an issue in this particular area. And don't even think about touching graphite to aluminum without a fiberglass barrier ply. Sorry for the lecture...hope it helps.

If I remember correctly, there are plastic grommets in the aluminum inner door frame that the steel screws screw into. So corrosion shouldn't be a problem. Personally, I'd just get the proper screws from my local Honda dealer.

Correct. The proper screws are: 90662-SB2-003

sorry to sound blah blah, lol

I know that Galvanic corrosion is real and have had issues with it with boats and jetskis never with my NSX.

I am pretty sure the whole door is Alum and does not have a steel structure,

and like GreenBeret said there are plastic square grommet that insert into the door so no metal it touching metal most of them are green or a similar color

but As Larry stated if your not sure and Galvanic corrosion is a concern of yours then hit up your local honda dealer I am sure they can order them for you.

Thanks! I like to keep everything as stock/correct as possible. I have worked on too many cars where the previous owner monkeyfisted something up using cheap or incorrect hardware or parts when the correct stuff was just a few bucks more.

Dude,

I am sorry but this part number is not correct. It is the plastic grommet, not the screw:mad::frown: I just happen to see a large blow up of the parts pic today:redface:

93903-44480 SCREW, TAPPING (4X16) is the correct number

Regards,
LarryB
