Door locks and remote panic button - question

When I unlock the car with the keyless remote, and with the door open, the door locks itself back automatically after about 10-15 seconds... but not always?? Why is this? Also the panic button on the remote has only worked a few times in testing the alarm... but other times it won't do anything but flash the red light on the remote... (the lock button always works - so the batteries are fine) I read the FAQ and it does not talk about this specific issue... thanks -Electro

At first, I thought something was wrong with my keyless system until I realized the following:

-When you use keyless to unlock the doors, the door will automatically lock again after 10-15 seconds IF (and only if) any of the doors have not been opened during this time (including the trunk and engine compartment)

-The keyless entry button toggles behavior to lock or unlock regardless of the true state of the lock. If you lock the doors manually and your last keyless operation was to unlock, pressing the keyless button will lock the doors again. Just press the button a second time to unlock. Before I realized this, there were a couple of times I came to my car unlocked...because I last LOCKED the door with keyless entry, then locked the door manually, and then pressed the keyless entry button thinking it would lock it again (not realizing it would unlock it).

-You cannot use keyless entry to lock or unlock your car if ANY door is open

If I'm wrong, somebody let me know. I'm just assuming this is the way it SHOULD work based on my experience.

What's strange is that it does this even when one of the doors is open afer I unlock and open the door... it locks back?? why?

I hadn't finished editing my post when you replied...you must have been online as I wrote it.

I don't know anything about the panic button though...I've never bothered to push it.

If you only use the keyless to open the passenger door, and you don't open the driver's door, it will re-lock the car. It assumes you forgot something that you left inside. You must open the driver's door to prevent it from re-locking.

Wow! a car that actually assumes things!

Too bad keyless entry doesn't unlock the trunk as well.

I'm just glad you don't have to disable the alarm when using the key to open the trunk.
