I just replaced my old pot metal "Thingy" parts in the door handles for the unbreakable Billett aluminum pieces marked in the photo as a "thingy" - available for about $40 ea. from SOS or Dali racing. It's a good idea to replace both sides. It's not too tough to replace, if you're relatively handy. A #0 phillips is needed and you have to replace a "C" clip to replace it. There are several writeups about door panel removal, showing how to remove the handle- basically 4 screws, once a trim piece is removed.
