It sounds kind of stupid for me to ask this since it seems so simple but maybe I'm missing something.

I wrapped my door cards in black alcantara about 4 years ago. They turns out ok but I wasn't truly satisfied with the job. Mainly there were a few imperfections and I could never figure out why it happened until recently but was wondering what materials everyone else used and if anyone has had the same issue as myself.

My door cards I stripped and used a brush to apply dap weldwood contact cement. This is what was recommended to me "the blue can". It's a two sided type of adhesive and can also be sprayed from a hvlp gun.

I used 1/4 thick soft foam. The type that's usually used for backing of fabrics and such.

When I applied the adhesive there were some areas I went a little two heavy on the foam side and it kind of sank in and never fluffed back up when I pushed my fingers I to the foam. I really think now that may have been the issue since all I would have needed to do was gently push the fabric on. But non the less I had indentations.

The fabric also didn't have a plush look when I was finished like some owners door cards I've seen. Mainly when I saw frank spano's car his were nicely done. I asked what type of padding he used but he had a shop do it.

I've searched around for different density 1/4 inch foams and it's only soft and poke board stiff that I've seen. I also have yet to find a 1/3 inch and feel that 1/2 would be to thick.

Any tips or advice? I also thought about doubling up the 1/4th but that would be the same as 1/2.

You're not suppose to put the glue on the foam. Just on the material on the back of the door cards. Same way that it was when you took off the oem leather.

I used the same foam that was there. Mine are still perfect 5 years later:
