A friend dropped my wife and me off at L.A. International (LAX) and not 2 minutes after we got out of her car, she got a ticket for 'No front license plate. The plate was on her dashboard . She was told it had to be mounted on the front bumper :mad:. The officer informed her they were ticketing for this infraction to help catch speeders and stoplight offenders in photo enforced areas. They have officers on foot, on bicycles and in vehicles patrolling the area to keep the traffic flowing and apparently to ticket for license plate violations .

Yes, I paid for the ticket.

It's a five dollar fix-it ticket. The CHP will inspect the car with the plate on it for free. I'm in and out of LAX all the time and have never gotten one. I did get one in my neighborhood about 3 months ago.

Do the tickets cost successively more?
Don't know, but don't think so. $10.00 per violation.

I saw a Vette with a ticket on it parked there a month ago and was curious why it had a ticket, so i looked and sure enough no front license plate ! You can get tickets for that anywhere now, at the beach, in my city ! is it worth the trouble ?

I don't think so. The trick is to have the State police do the inspection instead of the local PD. The state does not charge for the inspection.

I used to get those all the time. They would pull me over for my window tinting and then bust me for having no front plate. Sometimes I would have the plate up on the dash and they would never say anything about it. It was always a fix it ticket though. They never cost me any money. I would just have to go to a local police department, have one of the officers sign off on it that it was now installed and then I would take it to the court. I don't know if it cost any money as in court fees though because I would always be paying for the windows at the same time. I never fixed the window tinting. It was just easier to pay the $10 for each window that was illegal. It's not a moving violoation so it was never on my record.

I wish the front plate was only a $5-$10 ticket for me. When I got a no front plate ticket a few years ago it cost me about $70. That is why I now use a front plate since it's too much of a gamble if I get caught every few weeks. Most of the time they don't bother but when they want to enforce speeding or at the time we had the photo laser they will pull you over. For the illegal tint they carry tint meters and most of the time they wont bother, but sometimes they will ticket you and if you are a dick to them they hand you a razor blade and make you peel if off right on the side of the street. I had a friend who had to peel his off on the road and another friend who had to peel off those red tint tail light films from his tail lights.
