Does the NSX Satisfy Your Exotic Itch?

Do the looks and feel of an NSX fulfill your cravings for an exotic ala Lambo, Ferrari, R8? Particularly interested in takes from those that have or have had such vehicles.
 
Its pretty close. I think lots of people will agree if it had more power it would be perfect.
 
SaleenS7R pretty much said it. I know I love my NSX, I look & smile every time I go into the garage for something. I wouldn't mind more power, but I am not a fan of force inducting(if thats even a word) a car like the NSX. Why do you ask OP?
 
I haven't driven mine yet, but man, being that it's my dream car since I was a boy I'd say it's pretty satisfying. How it compares to the Italians, I'll probably never know.

One thing I'll miss about the Miata the NSX is replacing in my garage: sleeper mode. The NSX is expected to be fast (especially by the layman who doesn't know it from a Ferrari), but the Miata - no one expects one to have much power.
 
I think no matter how exotic once you own it for a while and the novelty wares off and its just another sports car.

Completely disagree with this statement.

As an original owner of an '02 LBB, I still get a HUGE smile on my face every time I see it in the garage, walking out to it
after work etc....
After 11+ years, 67k miles, 5 cross-country road trips, I still get excited when I know I'm taking it out for a drive - to the store, work, just to cruise or a long road trip.

But that's probably just me..........

in-response to the OP, Yes, the NSX absolutely satisfies my Exotic itch.

You're not alone. I've had mine for 15 years now, and I feel the same way every time I get into it... and mine is a daily driver (other than the winter)!

As far as the exotic itch goes, it's helped in a big way... but no.. I'd still love to own something italian in addition to the NSX.
 
I like the NSX but it doesn't really feel like an exotic because i haven't been left stranded in the NSX, yet.

"exotic" doesn't mean leave you stranded. I have only owned mine for almost 3 yrs, so maybe thats why I still feel that tingly feeling inside when I see and drive it.
 
I feel like my car is exotic,being 46 inches tall,midengine and loud.....that said its still a 17 yo car that creeks and groans alittle.....certainly any newer exotic will feel and smell newer/tighter....but it is still a special experience every time at the wheel.

The reason I ask is that as car guys I think most of us aspire to experience an exotic car. I think the NSX is pretty close--some will argue it is, others not. I know many have stepped up to Italians or the like and haven't looked back--but a lot keep the NSX or come back to it. Taking the reliability/usability factor out of it, are we getting a similar feel with the NSX? I realize this is very subjective. My NSX has been locked up in storage for the past quarter year and in the interim I've been dreaming of other possibilities. The NSX is absolutely a keeper for me and I haven't really driven it much at all since it's recent build. Just wanted thoughts from other owners.
 
I watched 2 GT3's and 2 458's leaving CC this morn completely balls out. At that moment I lost my NSX itch. :frown:
 
I may try and score something even rarer at some point but I will surely never get rid of my first love.

I purchased 2 things this month: A silver NA2 NSX (my first NSX --transport drops it off tomorrow!:smile:) and a Bendpak lift. I'll keep enjoying my Miata for you on the days my NSX is hiding from the weather. As for Italian exotics, I plan to try one or two, but I plan to keep this NSX (at least until I want one in Imola).

I think it is a moot point ~ most car guys that I know want to own as many cars as they can. If I had the means, I would be living like Jay Leno. So I don't know that the exotic itch ever gets "scratched" no matter what you own.

While I do agree with this, ocassionally I let my daughter drive my car when when we go somewhere and I ride with my wife. As she's cruising down the road I realize how awesome these cars look running along. I guess I never realize this when I'm driving it. You should try this on ocassion. It renews your NSX faith.

The Ferrari is Vegas and the NSX is an Indian casino. Your doing pretty much the same thing but one is in Vegas, and everyone knows Vegas.

If you want to go to Vegas but end up at an Indian Casino, you'll still want to go to Vegas and you won't be satisfied until you do.

personally i could care less about owning a Ferrari/Lambo as the meets/gatherings i go to there are many of them and usually only one NSX. i like my reliability and thankfully am passed the point that i care about the label for status. I wont deny i paid more for my car than the F-car i was originally considering. but i do not regret the decision one bit. it satisfies every itch i personally have. I had a high 10second car and got the speed part out already. i much more prefer handling.
 
Dont get me wrong I love my car and its a special car. Is it Exotic ...... I dunno but the word rare seems to be more fitting IMO.
 
OP, not trying to get too analytical/scientific in response, but your question really depends on one's age for the most part. The older and original owners (like myself with my 1998-T) will most likely be satisfied with their NSX as an exotic - the "classic" looks are pretty much timeless though there are more exotic looking cars out there.

I suspect for likes of us, more speed or more esoteric technological doodads is not the issue or requirement. I am somewhat old school re your question: I like the simple mechanical/granular (less electronics technology) in a hand made sports car; like an actual clutch, shifter, a suspension that doesn't think for you, and sure the reliability is great when you just drive it to the grocery store just because you itch for that driving experience ...... the older I get the more I appreciate not having these electronic features for it helps my brain cells to remain active longer :tongue:

Perfectly well-said! My sentiments exactly!

A couple years ago I too had the same opportunity to buy an F-car, Lambo, 911 or GT-R but chose a mint '05 RYP w/2k miles.
Honda reliability coupled with the look, sound and feel; as I have stated before, this is the best car ever made.

If I had the funds and space, I would own one for every year :biggrin:

In all honesty though, the NSX just "does it" for me.
 
As far as driving, the itch was met for a few years, but no, that itch will never be met permanently. I always want to experience the new stuff.
Really though, a lot of NSXs are worth around much as a used Ferrari.
Personally I would rather have 9/10ths and experience it every day than 10/10th experienced 5-10 times a year when the weather is nice.

I see a lot of junky NSXs(as I do with Porsche, etc). Cars that aren't lowered, cars with a 17 year old timing belt, weird rims, bad tires, old shocks, etc.
I imagine to these owners their car isn't exotic. To them I say, take care of your car, because it is a Supercar.

two great points above.Hrant is right on about the nsx being fun and desirable because of its purity of purpose and execution..and jond for pointing out that the nsx in general(especialy for all of us prime users) takes a psycholgical hit every time we see a car that has been treated like an accord or civic throughout its life.
