Do you guys like fishing?

I'm a fishaholic. All my vacation days are spent on fishing. We are just about to start catching monster rockfish in the next week or two at the head of the Chesapeake bay. Summertime, we head to the beach every weekend for tuna, marlin, sharks, wahoo, dolphin. Inshore we go for tautog and flounder.

Those poor fish in that tank must be pretty paranoid with that bad boy hanging over them.

You have some real keepers there. Congratulations.

I often sit at the bar and eat sushi in front of them....just so they know who's the boss.

Hey !!! It looks like you're doing the "fisherman's trick" (Extending your arms in order to make the fish look bigger in comparison w/ your body).

I do a lot of Fly Fishing, I have yet to make it to a Lake yet to fish. I usually head up to the White Mountains or Payson to fish the streams. Good times!!

Fished the white marlin open last week. We couldn't follow up our 2nd place finish from last year, but we did have a decent week. We were 5 for 7 on whites. One made the tournament min on length but must have been on a diet the past few weeks. Anyway, just thought you guys might enjoy some of the pics...

A short story and a question.....

Went to a Cub Scout campout with my boys, age 7 and 10, two weeks ago, and like any good Cub Scout camp, there was a small lake for fishing.

Now my youngest son had been fishing before, but had never caught anything, while my older son was experienced in catching small stuff (bluegill, sunnys, etc).

I had worms and bobbers read to go on the Zebcos, and they casted. That was what everyone there was fishing with, and catching bluegills, sunnys, and the odd small largemouth bass. After about 5 minutes, my younger boy gets bored, and goes through the tackle box and tells me that he wants to try this huge red and white spoon.

"Son, there's no fish big enough in here to get anything with that", I said.

But, he insisted and insisted, so I figured, okay, what the heck. I figured he'd cast it out, and it'd get tangled in all the seaweed and such at the bottom....I might lose a lure, but he'd at least be placated.

He casts not 6 feet from the boat, and sits there. Well, okay.

Just then, my older son lands a sunny, so I go over to help him unhook the fish, when I see my 7 year old struggling with the pole, and screaming "DAD!!!"

I see the splashing and fighting in the water, and I thought, son of a gun....

He ended up pulling in an 18" Northern Pike, the biggest fish of the weekend, his first fish, and he did it all himself. Well son, guess I was wrong. And now, he's Roland friggin Martin  but he's found something that is now his first love.

So, Friday I'm going to take him out and buy him his own tackle box, fill it with lures, and go out on the Niagara River to try our luck. Suggestions on good lures for river fishing? :)

Great story hondacuraplanet!!

When I was younger about the same age as your youngest son, we had a family reunion in Thunder Bay, Ontario. My dad bought me a bright green lure at the local Canadian tire which looked a lot like a banjo mino. Excited as ever I ran down to the dock and tried my new lure out. I did not have much luck at the time and was getting really inpatient. All I remember is dragging my lure on the top surface of the water back and forth admiring the bright green glow, and then out of nowhere about a 20" Northern Pike came from under the dock and took the bait. The only reason I remember this story is the fact I was playing with my lure not really fishing and caught one of the biggest fishes of my youth. Fishing brings such great memories!

I've heard there's some good fishing at PlentyofFish.com...

Pfft.

Talked to a lady from there last week. Within 10 minutes, she told me that she was on SSI, her kids didn't want to see her because their father "poisoned their minds" against her, told me that she was "bipolar and on meds, one day I'm one way, one day I'm another but it's not too bad", and that she was having a bad day because her schitzophrenic roommate tried to hang himself.

Her follow up was "so, did I scare you off?"

The only thing I could think to say was "so tell me, is there ANYTHING good about you?"

After another five minutes, the conversation abruptly ended when I excused myself to....something, I can't remember what.

POF is a great place to fish, but the high lead content in the water seems to affect their mating patterns

Anyways, sorry to thread drift :D . Need more lure suggestions (for FISH, that is..... ;) )

Exactly. I fish at least twice a year on the Great Lakes for King Salmon with my stepdad and our fave charter captain.

When I was a young guy in Michigan, about 10 yrs old, the family went camping at a spot where the Michigan DNR fishery bred Tiger Muskies.
For some reason, the perch in that lake were quite large and we used them for live bait. So here I am fishing with a Kmart special Zebco rod/reel combo with a live perch about 100 feet offshore... HIT... line runs, I lock it up... rod jumps out of my hands... GONE

I have a personal score to settle with a Muskie, still working on that one

Re: A short story and a question.....

When you buy him the tackle box you better let HIM pick the lures!
Great story.

I love fishing and Spearfishing, just got back from a 1.5 day trip and went down 120'miles south of San Diego. We trolled for tuna but no bites. I did hooking up with a yellow tail and lost another one trying to give it to this kid to reel up.

Nice catches guys, i try and post some pictures when I get to a desk top.
