When I see a Ferrari Testarossa, I feel like the car is very dated. It just looks old, imo. When do you think the NSX will look old, if ever? Or, is it a true timeless classic?

I get lots of compliments on how my car looks and people always asking if it is a new model from Acura or Honda. And my car is 16 years old.

IMHO, the original 1991 bone stock NSX looks dated. Rims, drop the height, small body mods will do wonders for the car. The overall balance of the design is timeless, the details are what brings it up to date with modern cars.

I just parked my 92 tonight at a local Starbucks while I ran next door to hit the atm....came out 5 mins later and there was a crowd around my car.

Agreed. I think the front end looked a little dated, but I tossed on the Shine Project lip, and it look's pretty good. The back three-quarter angle is amazing, and will never look old IMO.

I feel the same..thats why I want an 02 later on!!!

I agree with Oyagi...to me, it's the rims that look the most dated, followed by the popup lights. A 91 that's lowered with a lip and rims looks about as modern as anything else to my eyes. The 02-05's don't seem dated to me at all. IMHO the NSX is designed aesthetically in such a way that the bodystyle itself is timeless, and if you add some "current" styling trends (ie/ "modern"looking lips, kits, wheels etc), it doesn't even look old. That's one of the main reasons I still aspire to getting one 5+ years from now, because I know that the 02-05's will still b looking good when they're 10 years old :D

Forgot to add, the pic of the gallardo and the NSX is sweet :D

No, not one bit. I have a '91, lowered with 18 & 19's. When I pay attention, I can't believe how much attention I get just driving from one stop light to the next.

"Timeless Sexyness"

+1 on what simon says......i prefer the pop ups personally.

Most likely never, the original GT40, 288GTO, Toyota 2000GT, Datsun 240Z, etc still look great after all these years. We have another classic here.

When I see a Testarossa, I want one for my own. I don't think the NSX definitely fits the "timeless classic" mold. Also, I think the pre 02 NSX looks way better than the bug-eyed 02+ look. The visible headlamps seem to shorten the front end and make the 02+ look squashed.

Look is purely subjective. I am not sure if you have ever parked next to a 02+. I wouldn't say filp up is dated, but it is easy to tell which is more modern when parked next to each other. Not to mention weight saving + functional projectors.

I love the flip ups, I had flip up for 3+years however, when I parked next to Vance, game over. It led to hmm, never mind..

There are two types of NSX owners who dislike 02 headlights. 1. Who really do prefer filp ups (I think you are in this category, I know some NSX owners who can afford absolute anything yet prefer flip ups). 2. Those who are really bitter (you know who you are lol). Extremely few are in this category, thank god, but our local nsx owners definitely know someone who fall into this category.

There is a poll between the two, result are roughly 50/50 split, considering whopping 90% of NSX owners have flip ups, that says a lot, naturally most owners would vote for what they own yet, roughly 40% of the votes for 02+ came from owners with pre-02. That tell you something. I estimate the real ratio would be closer to 75~90% that prefer 02 if given a free choice.

As far as public reaction. I have had flip ups for over 3 years. The reactions and attentions from none nsx owners are night and day, almost can't go anywhere.

If I have my way, I like to own one of each. 1 flip up and 1 fixed. I will buy another white one hopefully someday as a project car and build an insane monster, all weight reduction possible + far more power than I can even use and keep the flip up headlights.

I agree that the 02+ projectors look more modern, I just don't consider that to automatically be a good thing and do prefer the smooth look of the pop-ups when they're down. I believe part of the division might be the age of the owner with younger people generally preferring the newer look.

When my car was stored offsite for 3 months this past winter I went '02 conversion shopping...mainly because the rest of the car was going under the knife for a balls-out buildup:biggrin:

I was all set to pull the trigger when spring came around and I went to charge the nsx up for the following week's drive home. I pulled off the cover, saw that familar closed-eye popup grinning at me...and I cancelled my order.

I like the '02, but it was the original face I fell in love with back in 1991.

There are aspects of the NSX that do look somewhat dated to me (the horrible radio antennae for one) but overall, I think even a bone stock 1991 still looks good today.

Perhaps not as classic as a 993 Porsche but much, much more modern than a 328 or 348 Ferrari.

I've been giving serious consideration to selling mine over the last few months but every time I see it in the garage, it puts a smile on my face. I honestly think the car still looks fantastic.

The NSX will remain a classic so long as Honda doesn't release a new NSX that looks decently appealing.

Luckily for us--as indicated by the release of the ASCC (Asinine Sports Car Concept)--Honda has dropped the ball and it seems we will have a classic for at least a few more years than expected.

As for the design itself, it looks just as good as the modern competition IMO. See below:

I wanted one I first saw one eleven years ago, I want one even more today.

A stock NSX can look dated (still a timeless design though) however the NSX is the only exotic that lends itself to modifications... so it potentially will never look dated.

Old ferraris look dated because you dont modify ferraris. Hondas/Acuras are "born to be riced"! :D

^^ Exactly. The beautiful black NSX on GT-V's up top looks as modern as anything to me. I think, as already mentioned, it has alot to do with honda not releasing an updated NSX similar in design to the current.

If they never release something that appears to be a futuristic version (ie/ the HSC) of the current car, then we will never really have anything by which we can directly compare.

i don't think it's dated.... when "old" cross's my mind, i look at today cars...right then the word "old" vanishes away...

when shopping for an NSX last year it looks dated compared to the Elise, ferraris, and lambos of the world. However, it looks night and day different when lowered, side skirts, wheels, & new exhaust. All this can be done for under $5000 and you have an amazing kick-ass car the will stop traffic.
I have racinghart wheels and stainless exhaust. Just need those new side skirts.
