Well, i'm pretty close to being a kid (i'm 22) and will always remain one at heart so I would answer yes to that question. I guess it depends more on where one grows up and how much money his/her family has, and what type of cars they had growing up of course. When my mother and I first moved here from Korea about 20 years ago we didn't have much, so her first car was one of those huge AMC Pacer wagons. I liked it because it beat taking the bus. Then when she got her (used) Hyundai excel (this was like a late 80's one) I was pretty stoked. It always made me sick though because it was so light. Then she bought a new Saturn SL1 sedan in 94, this was the coolest car ever. At that time this was our first new car and that was all I cared about. I didn't even care if I saw a Ferrari. Then after I started middle school I started noticing how all the cool kids got dropped off in nice cars. Growing up in SoCal I was made fun of a LOT by the other kids at school for not having a nice car. At that time having our $13k Saturn was literally a life changing thing. So at that point I started thinking 3 series BMW's and cars of the like were hot stuff, I still didn't know what the difference between the models was though. Coincidentally, a lot of the people who made fun of me had cars that I would laugh at today if they tried to show it off. I remember back in 95 I saw one of the first new Range Rovers (the new design had just come out) and I said to myself that I would own one when I was 16 and got my drivers license. 5 years, a $1000.00 Schwab stock account, and one dot com bubble later, I was driving a fully loaded 1996 epsom green 4.6 HSE with those cool 18" mondial rims. That was my dream car at that time. I felt like British royalty driving that thing around. I had the nicest car at my high school. It sure made up for all those years of struggle and being made fun of. Then before graduation I bought my next dream car, a Sapphire Blue 01 XK8 convertable. That was my ultimate dreamcar..... Then I picked up an XJ8 few months later (traded in the Rover). And now the NSX (sold the XK8). So I guess for me my dream car always kept pace with my success and hard work and where I was in life. Most kids/teens don't have nice cars growing up, so I guess it's the same for them? The one thing I always hated when I was growing up was those little snots who had parents who drove a 5 series or something like that and acted like they were the s***
The funny thing is that i've always worked hard enough and been lucky enough to buy my dream car. My new dream car is an 01 Diablo 6.0
As a side note, I lived in the west gates of Bel Air for 8 months, and recently moved down the street to Beverly Hills almost 2 months ago. If there is one place in the world where you want to see rich kids this is the place. In Bel Air I lived right across the street from an elementry school and parked my car on the street 1/2 of the time, so I ALWAYS had little kids coming up to my car with their moms, saying how cool it was and asking if they could sit inside. Some of the moms were pretty hot and i've always wondered if they came up to me for other reasons, oops I got sidetracked...... The Persians in BH have so much freaking money it's crazy. A lot of their kids are already driving or going to be driving new Benz's, BMW's, Porsche, Landrovers, etc........ That is the norm. So for people like that their dream cars are obviously going to be Ferrari's and Lambo's, Rolls Royces, etc..... With that being said I still get stares everywhere I go. Especially from little kids. A lot of them stop to chat with me about the car and go absolutely nuts when they see it. I think They're just attracted to exotic looking sports cars, which is why I always get flagged down in parking lots by them and their moms. The NSX is still a dream car for 99% of the people out there........
