Just thought someone might need this in case they wanna DIY on their X. Difficulty is about a 1 out of 10, as long as you understand electricity. If not, it might be a 2 out of 10. :)

Remove your center console. Lol.

First off, I have an SOS dash console with a custom double DIN installed. I installed a oil pressure gauge since my OEM one in the cluster took a dump.

Next I just eye-balled it and tried to get it centered as I could and drilled using a hole saw. I trusted my eyeballs but I would recommend measuring and taping and marking as to not waste an entire expensive ass center console because it looks an inch to the right. Obviously, you would drill a hole the size corresponding to the outlet that you got.

My USB outlet came with two female plugs. I got it off amazon for like $8. It has two ports.

You can tap into whatever wires you want but just make SURE that its only powered on during ACC, not all the time. For the location and the ease of installation, I just tapped into the wires that originally went to the cigarette lighter. The power is the brown wire with a yellow tracer and the ground is the black wire. Ignore the red wire. On the back of my USB port, the leads are marked with a '+' and a '-'. VERY easy.

I used these things. I dont know what these taps are called but they splice the wire and you just slide some male connectors in.

I shaved down the wire insulation to expose the wire for a good connection. Here's the results after the connection.

Plug them corresponding to the '+' and '-' wires and test if they power up a device.

There's a plastic ring on the back to keep the unit nice and tight in the console.

(Sorry for the dark pic but you get it.)

All done.

I'm doing this same thing tomorrow. I was always under the impression that the red wire is the "hot" wire and black is neutral. What's the red wire for then?

Pretty cool. I put mine inside the armrest for that Oem look and it plugs right into my stereo. I'd send pics but my car is in driving ambition prison right now.

will post one I did for a customers NSX we did 2 charging ports and the reg cig lighter all three in the middle look cool

but how much stuff do you need to be charging while driving I thought LOL

will post pics later

Thanks for the write-up.

Could you post another picture with a more view of your entire center console. Would like to see how it looks it general.

I'll try to remember to take some pics today.

Awesome work

Thanks!

Im sure red is 'hot' too but brown is usually 'hot' also so I don't know why, but I used my multimeter on the brown first and it was 'hot' during ACC so I just used that one.

I did some digging, at it looks like the red/black wire comes from the lighting circuit. I didn't feel like playing with it, so I went off the brown as well. But thanks.
