The permatex at the local auto parts store did nothing on the Range Rover. The brakes still make noise after new pads and rotors were installed. The OEM pads I took off the Rover had a slight rubber feeling to them. Kinda looked like it was sprayed on.

Can't drive a $90K car with the brakes making more noise that the Taitec Center Exits!

Any clue what I should use on the X?

Did you use the stock pads or aftermarket? I just did my rears with the stock pads and they came with a small packet of grease. Both sides of the metal shims need to be coated with this grease. I have not experienced any noise at all since doing the rears.

Your pads are probably oscillating. Get some brake cleaner, remove the pads, clean the back of the pads and its mounting surfaces. Apply some bonding agent (available at any parts store come in ketchup packets) follow directions and reassemble. Should solve your problem, $3-$5 and one hour of time.

I would agree with the earlier posters. Clean them thoroughly with brake clean and use the anti-squeal lub on the shims. OEM pads always seem to be the quietest.

If no luck there, it could be the slide bolt (that holds the calipers together) needs lubricated.

Sometimes the auto parts store sells an aerosol “squeal stopper” or “disk quiet” type spray. It’s like a heavy copper spray paint that you can spray on the back of the pads. In my experience, it works quite well. The only drawback is that is sometimes a little more difficult to remove the pads because the spray stuff is a little sticky.

Just brake later and harder! :D

Too funny! Reminds me of when I bought my first motorcycle and asked advice about my mask fogging up. Some guy said "hold your breath and go faster":D
