DIY aftermarket stereo system?

Hey guys,

Right now I only have the functionality of the passenger side speaker. I know the easiest remedy to this problem is to fix the amplifiers. However, it would seem that these amplifiers are going to continuously go out on me as they generate too much heat for the capacitors to handle.

What would I need to put two new speakers in and an amplifier to drive them?

Would I put the amplifier under a seat?

I know I would have the speaker wire going from the amp to the speakers. How would the amplifier connect to the stock radio though? RCA outs?

Thanks guys!

92NSX,

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, I think you are right. The best place to mount the amplifier is in the trunk. I did quite a bit of research on this topic and I found that it would be best if a proffessional installer equipped the NSX with an aftermarket solution.

Personally I would not want just any installer doing the work either. I would want someone like Andy Buzz to do the work on my car.

I think for now I am just going to try to replace the capacitors on the Bose amplifiers. I just wish I could find those old posts that outline how to solder new capacitors on to the amplifier.

Thanks again.

Mine is mounted behind the passanger seat-back. Seems to be a good place.

Kinda funny you mention Andy Buzz. He is the one I used last year for my current audio/video system in my car. His shop does excellent work.
FYI, my XTant amp is mounted in trunk also. ;)

For all of you that have your amp mounted in the truck, do you have any problems with heat? Where do you mount the amp in the trunk?? I read somewhere that if you mount the amp where the tools go, it can get too hott and cause problems for the amp?? I want to mount mine there, but I was thinking mounting it on the wall of the trunk would be better. Opinions/Suggestions?
Regards
Z

This is what I would like(via Daliracing website):

I have mine mounted where the tools would go also. I has a clear piece of plexiglass covering it and to protect from damage, along with some nice etch work done on it.
To maintain a cool temperature, there are two fans mounted with it. One pushes air in with the other pulls air out. Works great with NO problems.

Good to hear!! I'll go this route then!!

This pic doesn't show it very well but when the trunk is opened and the carpet is pulled back, there is a row of red led lites that come on for a nice little glow. The red surround of the amp is actually plexiglass also. I'm not the best picture taker, cause this one doesn't do the install justice.
