disconnecting centre speaker

Hello Everyone,

The centre speaker in my 91 NSX has developed a fault, whereby its producing a clicking sound when the Bose system is switched on (radio, cd or tape).

Rather than repair the unit (as described in the Bose amp repair thread) i'm quite happy to just disconnect the speaker, since i've never really felt the centre speaker made much difference (last year i repaired the amps on the door speakers and they seem to mask any sound coming from the centre).

I'm reluctant to attempt a disconnect by removing the amp form the passenger footwell as this seems quite complicated. The next obvious thing to do seems to gain access to the speaker the via the back panelling and sniping a wire. Does this sound like the best solution?? If so, how easy is it to get access to the back of the centre speaker??

I'd appreciate any thoughts/comments.

Thanks,

Amar

It's pretty easy, the shop manual shows how. You just pull off the top back panel, two panels behind the seats, and remove 4 screws, from memory. Then you could just unplug that speaker. However, on a '91, the screw tabs for the center piece are plastic that is verry brittle by now. At least some of them will crumble. Just FYI, you can put it back like that, or try to fix it with epoxy, like I did.

Also, as briank will tell you, once one of your amps go, the rest are shortly to follow.

If the center speaker is powered by the same amp as the foot well sub so if the center speaker is making strange noises then the amp in the foot well sub enclosure is failing. The easy way to stop the noise is to pull the power connector on the sub in the foot well. It's the 2 pin brown one at the top of the sub enclosure.
