I just got a major service and had my exhaust tips cleaned. Two weeks later, I'm getting black residue buildup on my exhaust tips. Should I be concerned about this, or is this normal?
My 1991 is in perfect mechanical condition w 33K miles. After a detailing my tips are very clean. About 100miles later they are black on the inside surface. Pretty normal if you ask me
I am thinking you do mean the inside surface. In the old days prior to catalysts, you could tell if a car was running rich or lean by the exhaust pipe inner color. A nice uniform gray was considered fine and would even give you an indication of the fuel mixture. Not so any more.
