I haven't taken my car out for a week and a half....I get ready to take her out tonight and....nothing !!!....The truck opener located inside the driver's door won't even work. I must have left a door open or a light on. My plan is to disconnect the battery and take it over to a friend's house and leave it on his charger all day. Are there any special concerns I should have in regards to NSX battery removal/charge/reinstall ?

I replaced mine on my first NSX. It was pretty straight forward. I got a Kirkland one from Costco, cost was around $40-$50. Great battery for the price. Do a search and you'll see others have had great luck with them too.

No special circumstances. Just read the chart on the charger for the hours needed to charge a completely dead batter. Also, check the water level in the battery if applicable. Costco also offers the Optima Red Top batteries as well. I use that w/ a battery tender.

Thank you for the replies. I took the battery out and there was some acid around the battery tray. I went back and researched my car's maintainence records and discovered that my battery was installed in 2001. Time for a new one anyway, so I just went out and bought an Acura battery from the dealership. A source informed me that these are actually the best batteries on the market right now.

Who makes that battery for Acura? Does it actually say Acura on it?

All my previous Honda OEM batteries last a little over 7 years. I have owned 6 Honda vehicles, and kept each vehicle for at least 10 years. The interior would fall apart before the engine.

Y'know, my friend told me who makes it, but I can't rememebr the name now. Yes, it does say Acura on it.

Tonight the NSX would not start. It turned over just for half a second and then that was it. Acura put a new battery in it 1-2 years ago. I can't believe I can't remember when. I drove the car about 1000 kilometers since but mostly it sits with no charger on it. I start it every 2 weeks and drive it a little in the indoor garage. It's huge and I can do laps late at night.

Anyways I hooked a 1.25 amp charger to it and then I didn't want to wait so I unhooked it after 30 minutes and the car jumped to life like I put 10,000 amps to it.

Crazy car.

Most Honda batteries I've seen are made by Panasonic. I seem to remember that the NSX battery is also made by Panasonic.

If the car is going to sit for weeks at a time, keep a battery "Tender" (NOT a battery Charger) on it. That will save a ton of grief with dead batteries and it's much better for the battery too.
Once a battery goes completely dead, it's my experience, that they never last very long, after recharging them.

The battery that comes in a new Japanese car is made in Japan by Panasonic. Any replacement battery that comes from Honda/Acura in NA has been made by a US company. It costs too much to ship a made in Japan battery to the USA.

My Panasonic crapped out on me tonight. I have been out of town for the past month. Car would not start so I took the battery to Autozone and they said it was toast  So if I understand what has been said, you cannot get a Panasonic replacement? What is the brand of the OEM replacement?

I don't know who makes the Acura replacement battery. It might be different in the USA than it is in Canada. I read once that a Lexus owner insisted on an OEM replacement battery and he got one from Japan but it cost way more than a US made battery.

Douglas Battery stopped making replacement batteries for Euro cars so I had to wait for a company in Calgary to make me a single battery. They had to make it special as they were switching over to a new design and very few people opt for an OEM replacement battery. The cost is at least double a regular battery as it is only available from the dealer. My car takes 2 batteries and the dealer list is $250 for each.

My Acura battery that quit 4 days ago and I charged for 30 minutes, started no problems today. Even it was relatively expensive because it was bought from Acura but they included installation. I think it was 130 dollars.

Prices are high in Canada.

I just replaced my battery with one from Costco. 100 month battery with a 3 year exchange over the counter, all for right around $60. Can't beat a 36 month even exchange for that price.

I used to be a die hard (no pun intended) Sears battery guy. The only problem was the batteries would die after like 40 months, they would pro-rate the whole damn thing and it would end up costing me another $50 on top of the $100 and change I paid for the battery a few years earlier. I had such bad luck with the batteries, I felt I was always removing them, taking them in, waiting in the endless line with one salesperson, only to be told they had to check, and charge the battery, and wanted me to come back "in a few hours".

I know with the Costco battery, I just bring it to the front and I will get a new one, no questions asked.

I heart Costco, and the hot dog and soda combo they have for six to eight quarters I believe.
