Anybody going to the DE at Texas Motorsport Ranch on April 12th wknd. Just wondering if any other nsx owner is going to be there.

I say that b/c i picked up my 1998 NSX today, and my wife had already signed me up for the DE.

Wow, what a great wife! I won't be there this April but was planning on going to a DE, Driver's Edge, event at MSR in Sept.

Myself and at least one or two other NSX owners in the area are instructors for The Driver's Edge and should be there.

The Driver's Edge does make an attempt to match up instructors with students based on vehicle... i.e. an NSX driving instructor has a higher chance of picking up an NSX student than say, a Corvette student. I can't guarantee one of us will get you as a student, but it's likely.

Hey Eric

What are you doing to your NSX? It is hard for me to keep up with what all goes on in Dallas from up here in the Hills of Arkansas

Well I have been working on mine all winter long. I should have mine back on the road around the end of April.

I do have a question for you Eric. I am putting 5 point seat belts in the car. Where is the best place to mount the 5th belt. I found a hump right behind the cross member where the front seat mounts. I was thinking about mounting it there, but afraid that the seat might hit it. Any suggestions on the best place to drill the whole for the 5th belt.

Just doing some upgrades to the car... trying to get it a little lighter, better suspension, etc. Nothing all that drastic. You'll get a chance to see it sometime, I'm sure.

Ideally, the 5th point needs to be in a place where the belt can drop straight down from the camlock. Wherever that point is, drill a hole for the bolt, reinforce it top and bottom with big-ass washers or plates and connect up the belt.

I've seen people "wrap" the 5th point around the front of their seat... not only useless, but dangerous. The 5th (or 6th) point(s) are "anti-sumbarining" belts, which basically means this: it keeps the camlock and lap belts from running up under your ribcage when you get thrown forward from any frontal collision forces... it keeps the lap belt around your pelvis so that you don't slide UNDER (or submarine) the lap belt and do yourself more damage.

Thanks Eric. I am sure I will get to see the car. I plan to be back down for Drivers Edge weekends. Dont worry you will not have any more seat belt issues in my car. I put a Harness bar and 5 point Schroth Profi III-FE in the car. And of course they are Blue. I am just trying to find a place that will kind of work for everyone. I think this little hump right behind the front mount of the seat will work good. I think the only problem is that if you wanted to move the seat all the way forward the seat might hit the bolt. But that would only happen if I was working on something behind the seat.

Thanks
Jim

hey guy, couple of questions for DE. I wanted to get my car ready for track use.

1. Which acura dealer in dallas is best for NSX maintenance.

2. how much does it cost to flush(includind ABS unit) the brakes.

3. I need to buy a helmet. Does bobby archer carry a large enuff selection that i can find a good helmet and buy it the day before the DE.

1. Goodson Acura in Irving, TX - 972-554-0505... ask for Susan Tableman.

2. I don't know - again, ask Susan. This is something that the local guys generally do ourselves... it takes about an hour plus a couple of liters of fluid. Unless you have done it before AND own the ABS Brake Tool, just have Goodson do it for you.

3. Bobby Archer's shop has enough SA helments from Shoei and others (Bell, I think) in enough sizes that you'll be OK. But, they are only open M-F 9-5 or something. Note: this is the shop in Fort Worth - not the satellite store at MSR. Don't show up at Motorsport Ranch and expect the shop there to have a helmet in your size. ALSO - you don't NEED an SA helmet... you can use any Snell M-95 (or M-2000) "motorcycle" helmet for these events. You can shop for these at any motorcycle shop.
