My car was taken into Sherway Acura in Etobicoke to have my 02 NSX converted to, day time running lights that is an RIV.CA requirement, and was charged $550 plus taxes. Is this a little excessive or about right?

Thanks for your input.

Humm, I spent like under $20 for some wiring & relays, borrowed a set of DRL's lights an older 91 NSX + 2hrs of my time & labour. Did you talk to Bram he might have had a solution for you? Does your DRL's light up the headlights or did you have to buy new lights for the bottom of the bumper?

A generic set of fog lights from Crappy Tire wired up by a stereo shop probably would run a hundred buxors or so.

Or the nice set of 'LED' lights you have on your car...

WOW, I wish I had posted this first, but time was of the essence to get the car ready for me to take delivery.

Do most here in Canada disconnect the day time running lights upon completing the RIV requirements, or is it ok to keep the lights on all the time.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Ian:
I posted this in your other thread, but will add more to it here.

Good to hear the car has finally made its trip closer to home.
Sorry to hear of the repair thats underway!

As for the DRL, I did mine one evening in the garage.
$5 relay, and 3 diodes ($1 max each)

Even someone not handy with electronics, could buy the DRL kit from Canadian tire for under $30 and install it.

There are several options on what to have turn on, when the ignition is turned on. I'll be interested in seeing what Sherway selected to have come on.

As for leaving the DRL connected post RIV, I did on my 92 and will again on my 2002.

There are a couple sides to this. Some talk about the increased safety aspect of having a small/low sports car without DRL. Having them helps others see you. (think blind spots etc) every little bit helps.

I would think some disconnect them.

Me, I opted to just light up the small indicator bulb that is just above and between the low beam and high beam we have on the 2002 lights. Sufficient for RIV
I like the idea of being able to turn off the HIDs as I back into the garage at night. No need to light up the neighbors places across the street.
If I'm driving in conditions where I think visibility might be an issue, I'll just pop the HIDs on.

Hi Brad:

Thanks for your comments. Look forward to meeting up with you once I take possession of her.

At this point it looks like next Tuesday is when I will take delivery of her. I am off to Buffalo to Ray Lakes Acura on Saturday to pick up a rear Tie Rod Adjuster Nut, as there is none of these parts in any warehouse in Canada, and could have been upwards of two to three weeks wait before getting one, which would have prevented me from taking possession of the car any time soon.

The following weekend Rebecca and I are going up to some resort in Peterborough for a long weekend get away. It will be just the three of us. Me and my two babys. Rebecca and my car and me. Can't wait !!!

The people at Ray Lakes Acura in Buffalo were of great help. Talking about great dealers with great service, Erin Mills Acura is tops on my list. Being in customers service and sales I am acutely ware of how I am treated when dealing with others. Cal, in the parts department at Erin Mills Acura is a great guy to deal with, and I foresee taking my car to Erin Mills Acura when ever she is in need of servicing because of their great customer service!

As soon as I get her I will post some pictures.

This is an exciting journey, becoming and being an NSX owner.

Sounds like some have done the cheap route with wiring and using their low beams as the lights. The actual CDN release cars had a set of lights mounted in the lower front clip that are independent from the pop-up headlights. While both options will fulfill the Gov'ts Department of Transportation (via the RIV agency), I personally prefer not to have the lights pop-up. Thus the independent lights get my thumbs up. I also support the safety benefit the DRL's provide and therefore see no benefit of moving over to the dark side of the law to drive without them.

JM $0.02

Ian, you should have call myself or someone else in the Club, we would have given you a solution, that does not lighten your wallet.

Next time call me first, I can always try an get you an answer.

Bram

Wire in the side marker lights next to the front turn signals.

Passed my OOP that way, then I pulled them leaving the dealership. DRLs FTL!

Thanks Bram:

I am looking forward to meeting you and the others from the CDN NSX Club. It all happened so fast with getting the day time running lights looked after. I never expected they would charge close on $600.

We brought up last year a work truck from Chicago and I think we were charged like $150 for the same day time running light conversion. Is it possible that people who come in contact and work on our NSX's picture us all as independently wealthy, so they feel obliged to charge us what they wish ?

Ian, I have an 03 and I wired up my HIDs as DRLs. I like it, makes the car look cool - Dave has a CDN 02 and it came with the highs at DRLs but IMO since they are inside and yellower they don't look as good.

I can give you a pict of my wiring job, it would only take buying a couple of fuses with the extra leg out the top and a simple relay to make it all work, you could do it from my picture in a snap.

I'm told the HIDs never die, so I'm not worried about bulb life, and I like the extra visibility it gives my bright yellow car - can't miss it now! :D

Stu - my highs are not the DRLs.

Ian - Imagine if you were a member of the CDN NSX Club - youd have payed off your membership already! Sign up. Dont go to Sherway Acura unless you have reasons for it; go to Erin Mills. They have two NSX techs there and give us super service and great discounts. I dont know what they would have done, but Im pretty sure it wouldnt have been that. Ive never heard of such a cost.

Hi Bio-Banker:

I am a member of the CDN NSX Club, or should be, as I have not received any acknowledgement from the club as to my membership status or membership #. I am also a member of the NSX club of America, and have enjoyed the discount from all of my purchases thus far at Erin Mills.

My car was brought to Sherway as it was convenient from who looked after bringing my new car into Canada. I have not been impressed with the Sherway Acura people at all, and will not return there, for more than a couple of reasons. As posted earleir I have been treated like a King by the people at Erin Mills, specifically Cal in the parts department at Erin Mills Acura.

I origionally directed my people to take the car to Erin Mills but they had already made arrangements with Sherway Acura as it was closest to them. Having said that my people said to me yesterday they wish they had brought it into Erin Mills the first time.

Live and learn. That's the nice thing about mistakes, you don't have to make them twice.

I will be taking possession of my car come Tuesday. I just might take the whole week off before my wife and my long weekend getaway with the car, just to get acquainted with my new baby.

All is good !!!

Ian

I believe we got your forms and acknowledged it in the MEMBERSHIP? thread!

Don't expect Dave to know what's going on, he so used to things flying past him FAST when it comes to NSXs! ;)
