David E Davis Dies @ 80

A giant in his field has left us.

More sad news from the world of atomotive journalism this past week...

I discovered in an Autoweek blog by Steven Cole Smith that Brock Yates, founder of the original Cannonball Baker Sea to Shining Sea Memorial Trophy Dash, suffers from alzheimer's. Steven noted Brock's condition in his blog on a Cannonball Run seminar held at Amelia Island.

And yesterday I learned that National Speed Sport News has ceased print publication. Created and edited by Chris Economaki, the dean of motorsports journalism in America, NSSN had been in continuous publication since February, 1943. It was preceded by National Auto Racing News which Economaki started in 1934!

You can get a taste of just how comprehensive NSSN's coverage is by checking out their web site at http://www.nationalspeedsportnews.com/

A sad commentary on our times... like seeing an 85-year-old Sir Jack in the pit lane on Sunday was kind of a reminder for me... tempus fugit.
