Hi from Staten Island, NY. I know this was a recent subject on the Forum, but I'd like to revisit it. The dash trim on my '91 is peeled and cracked. I want to cover them with an aftermarket dash kit. I tried a carbon fiber kit for $175 awhile back, but it was cheap looking and the fit was far short of perfect. I shipped it back. Recently I ordered a carbon fiber kit on e-bay from Seat Cover Specialties out of Fresno, CA. The kit was $290 and contained 7 pieces. When it arrived, it was aesthetically more pleasing than the first kit. However, when I tested its fit before installation, I discovered the kit was either mis-cut or simply did not fit my year NSX. The square piece atop the radio containing the air vents is cut too wide. The single, longer piece that runs down the console to the left of the shift (I have an automatic) is too narrow. When I place the kit piece over the original, the cuts and marks from my original piece are still exposed. I'd say about 90%-95% of the original piece is covered by the kit.
So, here are my questions for you guys: (1) Is there a difference between the '91 and '92 dash? (2) Has anyone else had this problem? and (3) Do any of these kits really fit well and look good? Or, should I simply attempt to repair my original parts and live with them? I've heard that the factory dash replacement pieces cost in excess of $800. Is that true?
