Dali-Daze Track Event #1 at SM - the first of 4 in 2007!!

As usual we give preference to our fellow NSXisti, but we do let other cars in for fun and to keep us all in our place - nothing like being passed by a Miata to send you back to the drawing board and back on the Dali Craig Diet Plan.

Then again, smoking a Viper can be fun too!

The open track event will be held on the 1.5 mile long West end loop at Spring Mountain:

To borrow a bit of propaganda from the SM track school brochure:

..."The track was designed to be a learning tool for the Spring Mountain Advanced Driving School, Inc., and that is precisely why it is ideal to rent. The road course keeps the car in constant transition, which, from a racing/testing perspective, provides both the drivers and the engineers full feedback. For use by driving clubs, motorcycle schools, and Ride & Drives, the track is both a challenge and a pleasure to drive.

The length of the upper (west) road course is 1.5 miles and has elevation changes totaling approximately 50 feet. It consists of seven corners, one of which is an exact duplicate of the hairpin at Mosport (corners 5A and 5B), known as Moss corner."

The surface is new this year, and is in perfect condition.

We will have 2 run groups limited to 20 cars each on an alternating 30 minute session schedule = 3.5 hours on the track. The track event fee is $160.00.

Full track event info is posted here.

10 of the 40 spots are already taken, so if this event fits into your schedule, you might want to jump in before I send the notice out to my track event list...

I need to find out more about my job situation next month. Then I'll know whether I can make the Jan event. I'm definitely aiming to attend your May event though.

I need to go back and tame that beast. Still couldn't figure out how to drive turns 8R and 9R, except very slowly. :frown: That's where I was holding up traffic. I need a ride in your Boopzilla to learn your lines.

HAHAHAHAHAHA - I just go sideways through there with lots of opposite lock.

Hope you can make it - we will be doing terror rides all day. With any luck the car will be at the Stage 2 level by then..

If you want to come to the track event to hang out pls do - hanging out is free except for the $5 head fee the track asks for.. If you bring along something with 4 wheels to run then of course you need to drop the $ to help support the event.

All the pertinent info is at the links in the original post. If you have any questions not covered there feel free to send me an email.

you know im in, and i dont remember being smoked by you in my viper LOL :)

sure, we are ~50% full at the moment - you will have several for company - some of them that will blow the doors off of the NSX's that come. (sigh)

Pls do the official sign up thing.

The next one is in late Feb, then the beginning of May. We take them one at a time.

Plan on coming and driving my daughter's M3 if space is available.

Regards,

Danny

Any action photos? Although I was not there, but spiritually I was.

Anytime, did you end up making it a day trip by driving 800 miles in one day?

Do you have to dig anyone out of the gravel this time?

Unfortunately No. Wifey had to work a full shift today. I had some work also, so I'll just go to the May event.

MJ How did the event turn out? Sorry I couldn't make it, I'll see you on Feb. 24th. Thanks, Gil

I wasn't driving the NSX, but I did bring the 2.0L Integra Type R; here are a few photos taken by Mike LaPutt @ Trackday.net

Here is a shot of me doing a 180 degree spin, coming out of corner 9 on the 1.5 mile "Radical Loop" section. There's an old adage that says: "when you spin, both feet in". In other words, when you know you're going to spin, depress the clutch/brakes and let the car finish the spin. I stayed on the track; kept the motor running and got back in motion as soon as there were NO CARS even remotely close to me. I think it was a combination of a little too much throttle-off in the turn on R-compounds that had not warmed up yet. I also had the rear dampers too stiff for this track; which I corrected.
