With all these threads about cupholders lately, I thought I'd add my experience..
My NSX is my daily driver, trip car, etc., so I need a cupholder solution. The Dali one works well, but it needs a couple modifications to be more useful and more importantly safer (for the car). Fortunately these 'mods' are free and easy.
First, increase usability:
I dropped the little hex key into the ebrake cavity the day the cupholder arrived and have never seen it since. Having to use a hex key and 4 screws to change the top on the fly can be tedious to do in the drive-thru line. So rather than carry around a key, I attached the large top like usual, then zip-tied the smaller one on top. Now it functions like it just had the small top, but is easily and quickly convertible to the larger top version by sliding out the small-top.
Second, safety:
With a larger-sized top heavy drink, the cupholder in its original form has a tendancy to fall back during accelleration (or forward during breaking). Another zip tie, placed underneath where the ebrake rests, helps reduce this behavior. The primary downside to this 'mod' is increased difficulty taking the cupholder on and off - it can only be done with the ebrake engaged. It's also possible that the plastic zip tie might cause additional wear on the leather ebrake handle.
I'll admit that the zip-ties don't really look all that 'clean', but they do serve their purpose. Besides, there's a cupholder clamped on so that 'clean' look is already lost. Maybe there's something better to use than zip-ties to accomplish these two functions? I generally leave the cupholder off unless I'm using it (during my morning drive or a trip).
I know it's pretty silly calling a couple zip-ties a 'mod', but whatever
