Dali Air Deflectors scraping

During my brake install last week with John Richards, we also put on a set of Dali front air deflectors. As soon as I turned the wheel backing off the lift, we heard a loud scraping sound. Apparently, the wheel is scraping against the deflector so we took them off. I would like to use these defelectors.
Has anyone run into this problem and how did you fix it? Did you grind away part of the deflector? I am running 17inch 225/40 tires up front.

BTW- A huge thanks to John 'ANYTIME' Richards for the brake install last week. He offered me his lift, showed me how to swap rotors and pads, and was a very gracious host. We're lucky to have him in our section of the club. Thanks again John and see you at the drive.

Ilya,

I have these with Stock 15" and you have to adjust them with the slots provided. With the 17" wheel this may be a challange. You may just have to go to brake ducts!

Ilya, do you have the large brake deflectors (made for the big brakes) or the regular ones? Also when you note scraping, were they scraping the ground or the tires? They should not scarep the ground even at the lower height (which is for track setting) unless you have yours really lowered more than 1.25" or, when you backed off did the lift have a ramp that bounced the car?

I posted on the forum a while back re perhaps your concern, see:

In addition to Larry's response re adjusting the height, you might also be able to adjust the deflector by bending the upper half of the defelctor further back - that is the part that might rub the tires (my solution for now).

Thanks. It was scraping once fully on the ground and turning. They are quite large so they may be for a bigger brake kit, but I am unsure. I will take that suggestion and turn the wheels full lock while installing. That may show me what rubs and what to bend. The car is lowered with Eibachs so it should only be an inch or so.

Dali Air Deflectors scraping -SOLVED!

I have just installed Dali @Brembo@ brake deflectors as Mark had none of the standard ones left in stock.

I have a 98 with standard wheels but experienced the same scraping noise.

After taking off the wheel, trimming the deflector, putting the wheel back on and taking paint off the newly refurbed wheel I realised that the trimming could in fact be done without wheel removal and if you have a handy little saw without removing the deflectors as well.

It is the bottom corner nearest the wheel that scraped on mine so I took a 2 inch diagonal piece off this corner and problem was solved.

Driving around slowly at full lock should tell you if you have an contact and then peer under to see where the culprit is and chop the bast*** off!

If you can do it without taking off (and bu99ering) your wheel then you could probably do both in 10 mins with no ramp or jack:biggrin:

I know this is an old thread but I couldn't find a solution so here one is!

Cheers

The aluminum deflectors are soft, push them out of the way. No need to cut, just look where they rub and give them a shove!

Come on, these are for function, not vintage heirloom bobbles...
