Ouch! I've got in-car video from Blackhawk when a deer jumped over the car ahead of me.
Was this under race conditions, testing, what?

He obviously sustained significant head trauma,even with all the safety standards in place.I wonder though...... they say he was rushed to surgery for a subdural,well that could be true but it would be more typical to be rushed to surgery for an epidural hematoma.Either way he likely has sustained some degree of brain injury,and only time will tell,unless he is an aging rocker who falls out of a tree has surgery and is back rocking wks later:wink:
I just got back from the track and talked to one of the CART rescue guys about the accident. He said the deer ran across the track at the top of the hill under the Toyota bridge just before turn 6 and he met the deer head on. The deer was still in the cockpit as he went straight into the kitty litter and tires and the car was still running wide open as they got there. Hope he makes it...

Doesn't the track have fence around it and plan for these type of situation?
They do have plenty of fencing but it is a long track 4 miles.

Damn thats just a totally bad accident all around. Hope Matta makes it. Unfortunately all the saftey features built these days are for keeping the head stable for the huge g-loads during a crash. I don't think a deer hitting your head at those speeds count as a g-load, let alone something they design for...but then im no engineer.
It is never good to see any one injured or killed on track...
The latest news stated that he should make it. His head injury is quite severe, and he is still in intensive car. I guess how he will recover from it is the question.
Hopefully he can fully recover from the injury fully. Ever since the black weekend of 1994 in San Marino, I have develope a fear of witnessing any fatal crash on TV....
