Cylinder Head Tick

When I cold start my car I can hear a ticking in the cylinder head. After it warms up it always goes away. The car currently has 90,000 miles, timing belt and water pump were just replaced. Is this a huge conern at this point? My mechanic said it is not something to be worried about but I wanted a second opinion.

Thanks in advance.:)

I beleive you are hearing the classic "cold" valve tap from solid lifters. No worries. Mine has 33K and it taps when cold immediately following a valve adjustment. Approx. 15K miles was the original recommendation for this adjustment, and now the newer service interval is 30K i believe. So if it was done any time in the near past, it is what it is:).

Cold Valve Tap

I have a 1991 with 71K miles and mine does the exact same thing when cold. I just got it back for Davis Acura last week and Bernie did a valve adjustment for me. I thought maybe that would solve the problem, but it still ticks. I personally don't think it's anything to lose sleep over.

My 95 had the valves adjusted less than 100 miles before I bought it and I have the "tick." I have since put 1200 miles on it and it still has it. I don't worry about it.
