Custom Exhaust from Muffler shop

Has anyone tried to eliminate the muffler and put a straight through set up from the cat back on the NSX? When I had my Viper GTS, the local chapter president told me about this shop near me that would bend a custom kit that eliminated the resonators in the door sils and was a straight through set up. It dyno'd better numbers than Hennessy's kit.

I had it done and is sounded incredible. Like the Viper should sound. The question is how would this go with an NSX. Would it sound like a loud hot rod, or like a loud racecar? What is it about RM racing and these other exhausts that make it sound good and can it be done without spending 1300? I don't care about stainless steel because the galvanized steel won't be corroding in my liftetime anyhow. Thoughts?

NSXTCY here on Prime made his own. PM him on the details. You DO need a resonator on a VTEC motor!!! It would be LOUDER than a race car NOT just as loud as a race car.

It is possible to make your own for $300 and save $1000 over the aftermarket if you don't mind a little patience and elbow grease.

Evokink,

I did fab my own exhaust for just those reasons (1300-2500 bux) That price is very high. To tool and design after market systems is expensive and with the relativly low numbers of NSXes and people who are nodifying them is why the cost is soo high. I have made several systems for my NSX the first being almost straight exhaust and boy was it loud. It sounded like a crotch-rocket on acid. Having said that you do not need resonators, however you do need mufflers. You could use universal mufflers (I recomend Borla) they are avalibale from places like JEGS and SUMMIT Racing. When it comes to a custom exhaust it is usualy the fabrication that is the bulk of the cost. Therefor I would recomend that if you intend to take that route find a custom shop and if need be have them special order 304 SS it shoud only add 100-200 bux (2.5 in is approx 6-7 bux a foot and the shops bending machine should do the job) to the cost of the system and is wel worth it as it will last forever and add a slighty more mellow tone to the system. Having said all this you will have a more cost effective system that souds very good.
The exhaust I fabricated was vey involved as I fabbeed my own mufflers using aluminum shells and billet end caps. This was fine with me as the cost of machine time is only my time.
Heere is a pic of my exhaust, I will try to add a sound bite soon.
Any more questions please let me know.

Thanks

Kevin P
