Would these make a difference on a car that's completely stock except for Comptech headers? How about when I get an aftermarket muffler too? How about when I also add an intake kit? And lastly, what about when I add a small nitrous kit (75 shot)? BTW, this is for a 91 NSX. I'm just slowly adding aftermarket parts as I can afford them.

Are those cat test pipes a waste of money? I'm hoping for a nicer exhaust tone and maybe a couple HP gain if possible. What do you all think?

Oddly enough, minutes after I posted this, I saw a set in the FS forum and will be buying them. Hopefully I'll get a little better sound from em and maybe a HP or two as a bonus. :)

They won't give any significant benefit to a car that does not have forced induction mods. However, they will add to pollution, and you will be able to smell the difference.

Besides constantly smelling the unburnt fuels that causes cancer, your rear bumper will slowly develop yellow stains that are hard to keep clean.

Like nsxtasy stated, for a non-FI street car it is not worth it to use the pipes for very minimal gains if any.

On a FI car the rear wheel gain is 13 RWHP. (i tested it)
The exhaust actaully seems cooler (have not tested the temp) but from my hand. I have a friend that had these on for years with no yellowing. (he had a obd1 car) My car is obd2 (1997) so i am waiting for a kit to allow these to be used without a check engine light. (this is in the works and will be out shortly) If you want more info please email me. I am not posting more info for fear of getting flamed my nsxtcy. (he has flamed me the first times i asked questions like you are now asking.

Answers to the questions I know about.

The test pipes wouldn't make a big difference in hp. Especially without having an aftermarket exhaust. To realize the greatest gain would necessitate the whole OE exhaust, from test pipes to exhaust, be replaced with higher performing components.

See above. You'll get hp gains, I've read 5-8rwhp, with the addition of test pipes to aftermarket headers and exhaust.

I believe the consensus is that the NSX OE intake is as good as you're gonna get for our particuliar application. In fact, I just switched from a cone filter to the OE.

Uhh yeah. You'll get some hp gains. Probably about 75hp. ;)

That's a relative and subjective question. For some they are a waste, for others they aren't. I'm happy with mine.

The biggest difference for me was the sound of the car. Much louder though not "race car" loud. Oh, and the exhaust has an interesting odor upon fire-up as well. I could tell a slight difference in acceleration by the seat of the pants feel...and the 1 to 2 upshift but nothing more. They also weigh A LOT less. Overall, I'm pleased with them.

Bah! Develop thicker skin. No one can injure you over the internet. ;)

This horsepower gain is from a 3.2L ; has anyone tested a 3.0L? When I bolted a set on to my car (w/ctsc), I noticed it did pull harder in the lower to high midrange of the RPMs. Obviously this is a seat-of-the-pants metric. The sound difference with the other parts of the exhaust stock is not noticable from the cockpit. 13 RWHP is pretty good I must say!!!!!
