Crystal NSX: $1,500.00
Jacob Jensen Watch: $1,500.00
Ayrton Senna Watch: Sold!
Trifecta Part 1.
Without a doubt this is "The Holy Grail" of NSX collectibles. The 1/18th scale crystal NSX appears less frequently than Godzilla. This one has never even been displayed. It has spent its entire life wrapped in the tissue paper and flannel cloth that it left the factory in. The original box and outer carton are also included.
The sculpture measures 9 1/2" long X 4" wide X 2 3/4" high and weighs in at just under 3 1/4 lbs. Honda part# 08Z30-SL0-000.
Trifecta Part 2.
Another piece of NSX unobtanium is no doubt the Jacob Jensen NSX watch. This stupidly rare watch is powered by a Swiss quartz movement and features a titanium case, caseback and buckle with a rubber strap. The crystal is of course sapphire. The watch face (under crystal) measures 1 1/6" X 1 1/16" and the strap gracefully tapers down frmm this width down to 13/16" wide at the deployment buckle. The strap is made from a special hypoallergenic silicone with a titanium covering on the outside. This is a man's medium size as indicated on the box.
The actual circumference of the watch with strap is 7". Don't worry if it doesn't fit your wrist, you're not going to wear it anyway since it's way too rare abd valuable. Besides, it can be used as a desk clock thanks to the incredibly novel design of the triangular felt lined machined aluminum holder that it comes with. This watch was pre-owned when I acquired it and does show evidence of being worn. It has some very light scratches on the clasp and on the metal bordering the crystal. All of the original packaging and paperwork is included. This is watch # NSX042.
Trifecta Part 3.
As the 20th anniversary of Ayrton Senna's death approaches (5/1/14) his loss is especially important to NSX owners. I was its caretaker for the last 10 years, now it needs a changing of the guard.
This watch has never been worn. It still has the protective plastic film on the back of the case. (That's why the photos of the back of the case look hinky) This is a true 100% mint condition watch. It was purchased new from the authorized dealer Gassan's duty free shop in Amsterdam's Schiphol airport on 3/26/04 and has been safely locked away ever since. Before being offered for sale it was inspected by an authorized Tag dealer and it is confirmed to be in 100% working order.
The watch's serial number is 1636571. The barcode on the outer carton is the original with matching numbers. The genius at the jewelry store who sold the watch left out the 5 when he filled in the warranty card. Just thought I'd mention it. Please see the accompanying photos.
This fourth Limited Edition was the only watch in the series to feature a Chronometre movement- in this case, the Chronometre-grade version of the Calibre 16 (Valjoux 7750) movement. The fourth series was available as a limited edition of 4000 watches. This is watch 3900.
The 2003 model (CT5114) was a gentle update to the previous version in terms of looks. Thick white “Daytona” style rings were used on the 12 and 6 o’clock sub-dials. The iconic Senna name and “S” are proudly displayed in yellow at the 3 o'clock position right under the familiar Tag Heuer logo.
The back of the watch features an engraved hand painted reproduction of Senna’s helmet in the yellow and green of Brazil as well as "Senna" engraved in his proprietary font.
Note how the dial has the word “Senna” embossed twice across the middle - again, a nice touch that you only see at certain angles.
The Senna TAG watches are some of the most collectible of the modern TAG Heuer watches. In fact, they are the natural extension of Heuer’s relationship with the 1970s F1 stars- TAG Heuer continuing down the path started by Heuer. Like the Ferrari’s of the 1970s, Senna’s McLaren also wore TAG Heuer sponsorship- the last time that TAG Heuer logos appeared on a F1 car (although they remain a timing sponsor of McLaren today, just as TAG remain a part-owner of McLaren).
Today, the Senna Foundation licences the “Senna S” to several watch companies, including Hublot. Despite this, Senna fans will always associate him with TAG Heuer and the famous McLarens part owned by TAG that he drove during the peak of his career.
