The green light comes on the on/off switch but the cruse control wont come on. Is there a trick to turning it on? I mean it sounds really basic, and looks really basic. Is there a fuse for this thing????

I purchased my car with the same problem - finally found the culprit. The switch on the clutch pedal wasn't adjusted correctly leaving it "open" or "out" making it think the clutch pedal was always depressed (well, who woudln't be depressed after being stepped on so much  ). It was a simple job and its pretty easy to check if that is the problem. Just look at the upper part of the pedal arm. Check the switch on the brake pedal too - make sure its engaging w/ the brake pedal while in its resting position.
Good luck!

Would I also be able to test that switch by trying to start the car in neutral w/o pressing on the clutch?

I don't have my shop manual or my car here right now but I don't *think* that would have anything to do with it. But if you're able to get your head down there near the pedals and look up there it's fairly easy to see if the switch is the problem. Ill try to get you the diagram link when I get some more time - I'm not all that swift w/ the online manual. It's easier to see what I'm talking about (the switch) using the pics in the shop manual. I'll try later tonight - unless someone reading this can find it for you before then.

I didn't get a chance to crawl under but I did the start test. i figure it'd make sense to only use one switch. But the car's switch seemed to work just fine since it did NOT start w/o pressing the clutch. I gotta find a diagram of what the fuses in the interior. I can't figure out what's what down there. Have another 650 miles.... It sucks w/o the cruise control.

When's your drive? Shoot me a pm w/ ur # and i'll call you if it's in the next 20 mins (if you can be at your car when I call). Otherwise I'll try to get the diagram link here too.

ok it's ok. I just read the FAQ on cruise control. Apprently, there's TWO switches on the back of the brake pedal. So I'm checking that out right now. I hope the cops don't roll up thinking I stole the car! I'm not even sure if the car is legal to be on the road here in texas. I do have insurance and all my sales papers though. Will keep updated.

Go to page 320 HERE. This gives a good side view of what youre looking at. Now look for switch A. First of all make sure the switch is connected (I forgot to replace my connector after adjusting the clutch once and got the same result - no cruise). Then be sure that the switch (like a solid black straw about 1/2 inch long that springs out of the switch housing and actually touches the clutch pedal arm) is being shoved all the way into the housing when the clutch pedal is in its rest position. If not - that mught be the problem. When the switch is out (not completely depressed by the clutch pedal arm) it thinks the clutch is engaged so it won't allow cruise to turn on.

I'll give another looksie now that the sun is up. I also hunted down fuse #45 in the front compartment as a potential problem, but gotta check that it. Damn I wish I brought my test light.

Nope, there have to be two switches. The starter needs to know the clutch pedal is all the way _in_. But the cruise want's to know when the clutch pedal is (not) all the way _out_.
