Hi. I am a new member. I do not own a classic car, but it gets me from where I am now to where I might want to be. Anyway, I just noticed a small "crack" in the upper part of my windshield. This is a 1991 car. I don't want to replace the whole thing. I have heard (mainly on TV) that there is this "special stuff" one can put on these sort of cracks that will, in effect, render them well again, unable to see the crack. If anyone out there knows of anything like this, please, PLEASE - e-mail me at [email protected], as I don't check this board that often. I would sincerely appreciate your help!!!

Thanks,

Mark Abell,
Cracked, but whole, in Florida

Is there a Novus(auto windshield repair company) around where you live? If not, check with auto windshield specialists. They should be able to fix cracks as big as a half dollar coin. Any bigger than that, you risk the possibility of the cracks not sealing well and could re-crack. Also, the areas near the edges are in greatest tension, so fixing cracks near there can be tricky, but if you get it fixed asap or the crack isn't too big, they should be able to repair it no problem. The cost has been around $70 and Novus has always repaired all my cracks and dings without any cost by working something out with the insurance companies.

I would steer clear from As Seen On TV "special stuff".
