I have resolved that I MUST drive this road. A buddy of mine and I may attack it with his VW R32 next spring

Wow, that's a lot of twisties.
I had heard about the Dragon many times but didn't realize it was like that.

Thanks for sharing

I was there at the end of March with my NSX but I'm not Ben. We're going back at the end of this month and stay a week. :)

I have borrowed a digital camcorder so when I get back I'll edit a video and post it. It is a LOT of twisties. 300+ of them in 11 miles.

Imagine hittin' those curves with your knee dragging the ground while going about 75 on a crotch rocket....man, that would be deadly!

That picture looks like a monkey behind the wheel. Yikes!

Just saw the video...nope...

love the way they were calling the riders "idiot", "stupid", and then they come up with exuses like "they're going to kick our ass" or "love to pull over if there was a spot" LOL.

We have a cabin in Robbinsville and will arrive 26th (Sat) to stay through the following Saturday. We've got several activities in mind but no set days for any of them yet.

That was MirroredShade's trip this past spring.
I think he used to live near Raleigh but may have moved farther west.

I highly recommend the drive... it really is the most fun you can have on a public road east of the rockies in my opinion. Had to take the IS300 due to family wanting to tag along, but I can't wait to take the NSX out there.

Cheers,

Max

It doesn't appear that the the camera car driver bears any fault for the cyclists accident, and the cyclist obviously had friends nearby to assist. It looks like the Harley rider got impatient and attempted to pass in a double yellow lined area. With the combination of turns it was a case of "the stupids" on the Harley riders part to over cook it into that left hander. So the rider WAS an idiot for pulling that move, but have no doubt that even when people are at fault for an incident they will often try to find a scapegoat to blame.

I am sure the excuse would have gone something like "WHY WERE YOU GOING SO SLOWLY THAT I HAD TO PASS YOU? NOW LOOK WHAT HAPPENED..."

Of course if the cyclist was hurt, then regardless of fault it was a crappy thing to just leave them there to bleed. The cyclist had friends there, but it isn't exactly easy to transport the injured on a motorcycle...

It is important to remember that even though this is a great twisty piece of road, it is still a PUBLIC road, and the rules (double yellow lines...) must be abided.

There are lots of other vids on YouTube- there is another vid shot from a cycle where a large truck coming up the road in the opposite direction crosses the double yellow. The camera/motorcyclist has to take evasive off the right side of the road and crashes.

This road is definitely hazardous, and the risks should be assessed before undertaking a trip.

That said, I am SO going to run this road! (I am just going to be extra careful, and keep it tame)

The motorcycles were passing the car and IMO that automatically makes them idiots. Considering how many bikes were right there stopping to help their comrade, I wouldnt have stopped in the van either unless I was a trained medical professional. A van isn't an ambulance there had to be a dozen cell phones on the scene within 30 seconds.

It's 11 miles and there must be 50 or more pull-outs, places to stop, along the way. If there's a slow car in front of you, pull over and wait a bit and then resume your ride. If you feel the need for more twisties at the end of the 11 miles, turn your happy ass around and do it again (and repeat as necessary). The day I was there I saw trucks, vans, pickups pulling trailers, motorcycles, slow-poke civilians in cars of every sort, etc and there were also about 450 Mini Coopers that day and we were all sharing that same 11 mile stretch of road. Yet even with all that, a little bit of patience rewarded me with some dynamite driving time - all I could handle before I was done. Stay on your own side of the road.

It strikes me that a stretch of road like this is a resource for folks to enjoy responsibly. In my research on the subject (I have been dreaming of a Dragon run for at least the last year) I have encountered many references to exactly the sorts of things you mention- share the road- stay on your side, if you are feeling held up, pull off and wait.

It all seems like common sense- Then you see a video like that Harley rider and you realize- Common sense isn't exactly common....

For those of us who are planning Dragon runs- please be safe, and careful. The last thing we want to happen is for increased enforcement on the road to prevent it's enjoyment due to dumbasses who can't keep their heads.

Hope you all stay safe on your journeys- looking forward to your videos!

Yes, what a loser. After all, what person wouldn't want to take on 5 or 6 biker guys along the roadside?

Looked like a woman riding that Harley that went off the road didn't it? I imagine there is a husband or boyfriend attached to her, and he is probably in that riders group.

So suppose the van driver stopped for whatever reason might possess him to stop, and the situation escalated to physical confrontation...

Now it is 1 or 2 (I think there were two male voices + annoying voice woman) vs. 5 or 6 unknown aggressors.

Now, I am just positive that YOU are a ninja master, and this situation provides little or no threat to you and your strong Karate, but the reality for most of us is that we would respond to the situation in a pretty similar fashion.

everyone loves an internet tough guy...

Here is a video I recorded in my nsx following a f355 at deals gap. The camera moves slightly on some of the cornering because the camera mount suction cups came loose and the camera was just resting on the passenger headrest.
