Cops and Coffee meet

I heard about this.....it is too bad since this is a fun event for all car people to check out cars that you normally only see in magazines. Doesn't affect me really since I do not go to this every week like some people. But it is too bad....time to move to another location. Or make it a smaller meet somewhere else.

I'm just surprised that it took the Irvine police this long.

I've been there only twice, the last time being about a month ago. I noticed a couple of cruisers there, but the cops were just standing around, talking. I figured that they were simply there to show their presence so that things don't get out of hand. As I was leaving, I spotted them writing what seemed to be parking tickets for cars that were parked along the street.

I guess they didn't have anyone parking along the street that day.

If this is how it's going to be, I'm probably never going to C&C again.

This is really too bad. They should realize that people hook up at these events and go out to breakfast at nearby locations afterwards. In other words, it sounds like they're chasing away potential business for the local Irvine economy. My father was a police officer, and I have respect for law enforcement, but pouncing on people who just want to go out and admire cars on a weekend morning is a bit much. Especially at a place that has approved the car meet.

The City of Irvine chased everyone out of Crystal Cove. Now they're harassing people in a business district and at a building that is occupied by FMC. Maybe they don't care if we spend our money in Irvine or not! Shop and eat elsewhere!!!

I don't for one second agree with the chickenshit practice of hanging out at car meets to hand out tickets for not having front license plates but I do have to say this.

The cops aren't the ones to blame here. It's the childish idiots that do burnouts on the public streets in Irvine. Sorry guys... but how can you reasonably expect a highly policed area like Irvine to sit back and let that happen before they respond in mass? This is really unfortunate but it's every bit as predictable as tomorrow's sunrise.

Irvine cops have too much time on their hands.

Why not rent a truck and trailer from U-Haul and bring your car there on a trailer?
Once you're off the public roadway you can unload the car.

so not worth it... all for a casual get together....

but on another note... isn't this borderline entrapment? like pulling over cars right outside a local car meet? i mean i don't mind them enforcing the idiots doing burnouts, reving super loud, etc...

but to rain down on a good/wholesome/organized get together seems to suck...

OH well... NEW PAG meet locaation.... iN FRONT OF MY HOUSE~!!!

My wife and I will be vacationing in Dana Point. My car (NSX) doesn't have a front plate, no holes for it in my bumper. Should I drive a car that has a front license or take my chances with the NSX?

I would just take your chances with it. Cops don't usually pull you over for that unless you give them reason to, or unless they're looking for something else.

I live in Dana Point and work in Irvine.

Neither our LX nor my NSX have front plates on. In fact, no car I've ever owned (except the LS400) has had a front license plate on it. The only reason the LS has a front plate is because I bought that car from my parents and they had already installed the front plate. Removing it would leave holes in the front bumper.

I have never (knock on wood) had a ticket or problem in what is (YIKES!) approaching 19 years of driving/living in Orange County.

But... if you're taking the NSX to Cars and Coffee (where the chickenshit patrol will be out in full force looking for an easy opportunity for tickets) you might want to consider that.

Also be advised that many local airports (LAX, for example) have officers assigned that do nothing other than walk the parking garages looking for tinted front windows, and no license plates. Easy money for them, royal pain in the ass for us.

BTW - when are you coming to Dana Point and where are you staying?

I'm staying at the St. Regis april 29th until the following thursday May 3rd.

That's a beautiful facility and it's located literally down the street from us. Great views, great food, and great service.

If you're not going to go to PAG, go ahead and bring your NSX. There's at least five of us in the Dana Point/San Clemente area and I don't think any of us have front plates.
