I don't know if this is the correct place for this post, so Mods please move if it is not.

My old coolant tank developed a leak this week. I have thought about trying to buy one of those patch kits and fix it, than paint it, but I will probably just buy a new one. My question is, if I do buy the OEM one, has anyone had experence painting the OEM one? I think I remember reading about someone doing this awhile back, but can't find that now.
Also, has anyone had any experience with the Dali Racing Coolant Tank: OEM Billet Style? http://www.daliracing.com/v666-5/catalog/index_browse_part.cfm?focus=2066

Thanks

There was a post from a member just a few days ago about painting his OEM tank red. Looked nice.

I personally would buy a new tank to make sure you don't have any more problems. I like the polished ones.

Several people have painted the OEM ones red, black etc. SOS has another option including a sight glass on the side of the tank:

I actually purchased that one, but called this morning, and they told me there would not be any available for 3 months! So it is on to plan B.
Can anyone send me a link to where the other Prime members painted theirs? Thanks!

Thats a bummer, you could try the patch kit as a temporay fix until they come in.

Here's a useful link for prep if you are going to do it.

Here are some links for painted coolant bottles

I painted mine about 2 summers ago and it's held up very well. I used SEM satin finish trim paint. You can now buy paints ( I think Dura Color) that are made to paint plastic with. It allegedly "bonds" to the plastic and you can get at most hardware stores. I was concerned about the heat generated by the coolant and was considering getting a heat resistant auto pain, But, I thought I'd try what I had on hand and, as noted, it's been good.

After painting your tank, be very careful in reinstalling it as the paint will scratch easily.

If you paint your coolant tank, you won't be able to see the level of the fluid. It may be worth the wait for the sos tank.

CLR1024, Thanks for all the links! Really helpful!
I have decided to get the OEM tank (SOS is getting this for me) and will probably paint it. I did a test paint on my old one, after patching it, and it looks good. Thanks again for all the advice guys!

painted mine a year ago. Scuffed it, then primered it a couple times. Then a few coats of flat black. The painted kinda flaked at one spot only, where the screw bolts to the bracket on the right hand side.

There is a thread about Macs in Japan and looking at some of the cars the coolant tank on the NSX-R is white with a black top. Another car also had this tank. Most of the others were the white coolant tank. Would a new coolant tank from Honda be white with a black top? It looks really good too.

The coolant tank is white, the 'milk bottle' - the black top you refer to is actually a rubber piece that slips over the white coolant tank; this rubber piece is stock on the nsx-r, and type S.

I painted mine with black wrinkle paint that held up very well. It's durable and looks very close to the valve covers' wrinkle black finish.

If you patch it up and it looks ugly, I have those black NSX-R rubber boots in stock. You can get one of those and cover it back up!

Whatever you do check the starter to see if coolent got into it -as did mine. I had to replace the starter about 6 monts after the leak was discovered and corrected. It is easy to check and a pain to deal with once the starter dies i.e. tow to your service.

if u do spray it make sure you laqer it after should stop it flaking

ps i have 1 for sale if needed

thx amo
