coolant system pressure

There is no pressure gauge on the NSX that I know of. If you are pressure testing the cooling system, the 91 manual says put 14 - 18 psi in the system.

Do you have a leak?

Not sure why you think you have a blown head gasket Igor. Is there coolant in the oil? Are you losing coolant? Blowing white sweet smelling smoke?

What are the symptoms? Has any work been done on your car recently?

Hi
I do not have any of the symptoms but when I run the car
realy hard it pushes coolant true the cap and cap is good.
On idle it makes 16 PSI of coolant pressure and my
cap is 18-19 PSI so when I run hard it goes over 18-19

Does anyone know what is the cost of replacing
head gaskets?

Thanks
Igor

COOLANT SYSTEM PRESSURE

IGOR.

In reading your post, your saying that fluid is leaking from the “coolant tank cap” in the engine bay? There have been many posts on the leaking coolant TANKS. Seems on the older nsx’s the lip, at the tank top, became very brittle and would start leaking during hot weather or hard track usage

Try the paper towel trick. Roll a sheet of towel into a long cigarette like tube. Now wrap the towel around the top of the tank (just below the cap), use a small bit of tape to hold the towel in place. Run the car up again, to full temp. Now check to see if the towel is wet.

Hope these checks will help in your diagnosis of the leak…………..Head gaskets are probably the last thing on the list.

Hi Dave
I do not have a stock coolant tank.
And coolant leacking from over flow tube
Thanks
Igor

Igor,

Aftermarket coolant tanks are well known for barfing contents when the car is pushed hard. I have seen this myself on many tracked NSXes with the round tanks. I think the primary problem is too much coolant in the tank. If the round tanks are filled to 1/2 capacity or less, they seem to work much better. HTH.

I've got the same problem. Under HARD driving coolant comes out of the overflow tube, NOT THE OEM TANK. In an effort to find the cause of the problem the following has been performed and has not fixed it:
New OEM coolant tank
All coolant hoses replaced
New OEM radiator- replaced coolant and bled system per service manual.

Went to a high-pressure (19-21 lb) coolant tank cap and the problem has been reduced but still occurs.

Diagnotics performed:
Leak-down test was done on each cylinder- all cylinders holding pressure and coolant did not rise in tank.
Oil has been analyzed several times and no combustion products or anti-freeze was found in oil.
No white smoke from exhaust.
During normal street-driving coolant is not discharged from hose.

The temp gauge is normal during the coolant discharge. It would seem the coolant is being pressurized but not overheated.

Looking for suggestions before doing exploratory surgery (removing heads on a "guess").

My main tubes has blown once and the temperature guage hit the top red level once. Since then the temperature sensor has been replaced. Last week, I drove the car again and it hit red again as there wasnt enough coolant inside. My mechanics identified that it could be due to a loss tube under the front boonet. However, it could also be becos of the blown head gasket.

We are not so sure yet. But what are the signs and symptoms for a blown head gasket. And how to fix it? would it be the same after it is fixed? or its performance would be affected?

I am monitoring the level of coolant on a regular basis now. Would I be able to see wet spot under the engine?
