Coolant Pipe Crush Washer Issue

I just changed the coolant on my NSX. After a test run, I discovered a leak at the crush washers on the coolant pipes. The washers were purchased a few years ago from a local Acura dealer. After looking at the new washer that leaked vs the washer that was on the car originally, I understand the problem.

Looking at the picture, the original washer is on the right, the replacement washer on the left. The hole in the new washer is too large, so that when the plug is tightened, the washer can go off-center and leak. If you look closely you can see the skewed crush pattern on the washer. If you look at the original design washer, a very concentric crush pattern is evident.

Dimension wise, both washers have an OD = 15mm. However, the ID is 8.5 mm on the original vs 10.5 mm on the replacement.

Has anyone else run into this problem? The Acura dealer selected the washer via Acura part number, so this wasn't some random replacement.

Dealers giving out the wrong parts is not a new issue. Always stare and compare before you install. Wisdom learned the hard way as well.
Happy Motoring!

Hi Frank,

The washer on the left is a 46472-568-000 and it is the crush washer for the banjo bolts on the brake calipers and ABS System.

What you want is a 90471-580-000 8mm crush washer. If the car is cold a little fast finger work will keep the mess small to swap them out;).

Larry,

Thanks for the valuable info. It appears that dealer must have mixed up things in their parts bins. I have one of the banjo-bolt washers left, so I can at least tag it for future use.

I already did the swap out with the engine cold and the help of my wife. I took out the plug and held my finger over the hole while Jan changed the washer on the plug. I only lost about a 1/2 cup of antifreeze - most of it absorbed by the sleeve of my sweatshirt.
