I bled my cooling system three times following the service manual. It keeps leaking from the expantion chamber overfill hose. I replaced the cap thinking my cap was worn out, but i seem to have the same problem. i purchased a generic cap (16lbs). will a generic tap make a difference. anyhow, i ran out of ideas. oh and my thermostat seem to be working fine. there are no overheating issues until its leaked enough water out. oh, and it only begins to leak when i put a good load. normal driving there are no issues and my car is boosted. help

thanks in advanvce
Warren

i eyeballed the reservoir and it seemed to be ok. the water leeks out from the overfill hose!

It sounds like a good amount of water is leaking out. That's very odd. How does that much water get up that high? You're certain you aren't overfilling it the bottle? The cap is meant to vent the air in the bottle after it surpasses the rated cap pressure, then suck air back in when the system cools down.

i had the same problem on my turbo civic before and it turn out to be a blown headgasket you might want to do a block test to verify you dont have a minor blown headgaket.

I suggest you have some of the coolant water checked to see if it contains oil before anything else. :frown: I was thinking a blown head gasket too.

blown headgasket ahhhh don't scare me like that. today i did a coolant test and pumped 18lbs into the system and there are no leaks. i tested the cap and it's all good. i flushed the system out a few min ago as soon as trafic dies down i'll go out and put a good load. i didnt find any contamination, but it did smell something different when i opened the cap and released the pressure, but it might be me. can a thermostat be a problem?

Good news for you . Merry Christmas.
Yes, I would next look into the thermostat too, though you first did mention it is working fine. For myself bleeding the system and renewing the cooling water, also requires a new thermostat. It is not an expensive part and can save you the trouble.
But is a lot of cooling water leaking, or just a small amount ? In case it is a small amount, you can remove the small hose from the
overfill tube and check that same tube for a tiny crack (due to the metal piece pressed into it). It it sometimes hard to see.

so you did smell some thing different right. like i told you go get a block tester it come with a special chemical you put it right above your overflow bottle and the blue fluid indicated no blown headgasket. and if the fluid turn/change color means there's blow by in to the cooling system which result in to a blow headgaket. its worth the 30 dollar test to save you big time on a wrap head.
good luck

im having the same issue on my mr2.

my car blows through 5 gallons ( yes you read correctly, GALLONS) of coolant in about 5-6 pulls

i have a blown head gasket. the issue is when you go under boost, the combustion gases excape into the coolant jacket which hyperheats the water and the water boils over and shoots out.

what happens with me is my car will get hot, ill let drive it really easy for a couple of minutes then get on it again. eveutrally all the water gets vented out and she over heats...

you can putt putt around by making sure to top off your coolant resavour every time you drive but its only temp patch.

eventurally you'll need to get HG done.

and nsx has 2. :frown:

good luck with your car.

it sucks but with great power comes greater price tag for repairs.

seaons greetings to all.
