coolant hose replacement question

I am almost done but have a question.

One of the replacement hoses seems a little longer than the original. The hose I'm referring to is one that goes from the two big pipes to the engine. From the firewall side, it is the middle one (a small hose and two large ones are all side-by-side). This hose has a bend or two in it naturally for its route. The new one is a little too long. Its extra length partially kinks the sides of the hose in the middle where the extra length makes it bend a little extra. Is this a problem?

One other question. My oil pressure switch wire (from the oil cooler) has a few bolt-eyes on it where 10mm bolts hold it to the car. The bolt in the oil cooler is in and fine. But, the next eye (away from the oil cooler) - where does it go? I have no extra 10mm bolts and I can't see anywhere that this eye is supposed to connect to. I don't remember removing this bolt but when I was working on the oil cooler hoses I then noticed this "extra" eye.

If you could tell me where it is supposed to connect, then I might be able to see what to do.

Thanks.

Here is a picture of the way the hose replacement looked after I finished. It is not kinked in any way.

Also, here is a picture of the way the wire is attached to the oil filter housing. The wire runs up and to the rear from there but I can not see where. I'm putting the car in the air tomorrow and will take some detailed pictures for you and post them here.

you are fine.

as long as there are no kinks.

make sure its free from rubbing against metal parts.

Thanks for the help. Just FYI, the hoses on mine that are somewhat kinked
are the large ones going to the engine from the firewall. They are in the engine compartment, not under the car.

In fact, one of mine under the car is a little too long and just a small amount deformed due to the extra length.

It is the middle one going to the engine (a big one) that is so long that it kinda dimples in where it bends.

I look forward to pictures of where you oil pressure switch wire runs. Thanks!

It looks like from the picture that you could slide the hose further up the tube, clear to the enlarged area, to take up some of the slack. If you could slide it 1/4 inch on each end that would do it. I know it isn't easy, but I would try. You don't want any kinks in those hoses.

Also, the hose with the bends in it can be put on either way. One way it fits better and the other way it tends to kink. You may want to make sure that it is on the right way. You may need to take it back off. Look at it some more to make sure that when it is finally installed it is situated correctly. Make some marks on it with a Sharpie to align once it is on the tubes. Put some Silicone spray on the tube and hose to make it easy to push on and twist.

When you install these hoses you should use a lubricant so they can slip on all the way. It MUST be a silicone based lube, not petroleum based. I use the stuff found in the swimming pool supply store for o-rings. As Brad mentions silicone spray works well too. The kinks should be very minor if any, assuming you have gotten the hoses fully bottomed out on both ends, the lube will help you get them all the way on. It regard to orientation of the hoses there is a colored dot on one end of each large hose, one yellow and one white. The colored dot should be on the engine side.

In regard to your oil pressure switch wire, this ball eye, as you call it, is a clip that holds the wire so it runs along the bottom of the upper rear timing cover. It was probably not put back on the lower 10mm bolt that holds that cover on during a previous timing belt service. I have seen it many times. If that is the case you can remove that upper timing cover bolt and get the bolt eye secured to it. This is a pretty difficult area to work. When I do a timing belt I raise and lower the engine with the right and left side motor mounts off the get clearance to get a tool in there to get this clip back on. The two rear lower TB cover bolts are the two most difficult fasteners when doing the timing belt with the engine in the car.

Larry - thanks. I even forgot to mention the colored dots on the big hoses. On one of the hoses I took off I found that it had a dot so I was able to get one of them on going in the right direction. The other hose had its dot worn off some how so I had to guess. I'll try re-installing in the other direction.

How much coolant will I lose removing one of these coolant hoses? They seem pretty high up on the car so maybe not much. I only have a little left in the original container.

RE: the bolt eye or whatever it is called, the only place I can think of for it to go is where you suggest - the lower timing belt cover. But, that bolt is fairly tight/stuck on. I only put a little effort on it, but these aren't really high strength bolts so when I felt a little resistance, I decided to ask questions before removing it. I'll see if I can get a tool on there properly.

Thanks for the info, Larry.

I suspect you could lose up to 1 gallon. You are just below thermostat level with that hose.

looks like a straight tube, you can always cut it to fit... make it "custom" to your nsx.
