Coolan Bottle OEM vs. Aftermarket

My mechanic discovered my coolant bottle has a hairline leak today and suggested I go with an aftermarket aluminum one.

However, I read this post about leaks through the overflow hose and am worried:

I don't care what the bottle looks like, as long as it doesn't leak.

Please provide advice on what I should do about my leaking coolant bottle. OEM or Aftermarket (with reliability as the main criteria).

Thanks!

If you can't actually see the crack yourself, I'd suggest further investigation. I thought mine had a hairline leak as well and there was evidence of dried coolant collecting on the ledge at mid tank. I even bought someone's spare OEM tank but before I installed it, I tried switching caps first and the problem went away.

Thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately, I am pretty certain the crack exists and can even some coolant bubbling from it after a hard drive.

If anyone else has anecdotal evidence advice about aftermarket tanks, I'd really appreciate it. The Al tanks look more durable, but I don't want to go that route if its going to make my engine overheat.

The problems you have been reading about are involving forced induction cars, or cars that are run really hard at the track. If you have neither of these conditions, then aftermarket should work fine for you.
