I realize that while I am semi knowledgeable on computers that there are many guys here that know way more than me.

So my girlfriends computer recently took a dive...best buy said they will take a look at it for $250, its 7 years old, I am thinking for that price you should be able to pay a little more maybe $400 for a new tower, her monitor and keyboard are fine.

I looked at Dell and they have some towers for $400 but they come with windows vista, some of her old software was made for XP, will the XP software work on windows vista or is she SOL, alternative is to buy a computer with windows XP.

Also looking for recommendations on a new tower for around $400. Dell, gateway, compaq, etc....She needs basic features, be able to burn CD's, listen to music, surf the web and use Microsoft word, excel etc.

Thanks,

Carl

Go HERE. This is Dell's outlet...you get about 10 to 15% off PLUS you can still find computers with XP on them. You also could probably find a simillar computer that was listed above.
I just used this service last week - 1. to save 2. to get XP.
