Hello,
Is a comptech SC still legal in CA ? Do they still make SC for NSX? If I buy an SC NSX out of state, will I be able to register it in CA?
Thanks.

The Comptech SC is legal in Cali. And you should have no problem with an out of state car as long as it is a Comptech SC and the sticker is there in the engine bay which shows the CARB number. Might also be nice to have the paperwork available to.

I have the Whipple version, I know for sure the low boost is. I don't know about the high-boost. I think the Autorotor version is just low boost so that should be ok.

As far as I know they still make the SC and it should be legal in CA.

Check here:

Edit: If it were me though, for the money I'd look into the SOS package...close in price looks like the CT kit externally...

Anyone ever think about getting the superior SOS package and putting the Comptech emblems and CARB stickers on the SC and hood? Just in case you get pulled over in CA.

It's legal, but you'll have to make sure you have the CARB sticker and docs just in case they pull you over. Sometimes they give you a hard time over it. Then they start lookiing at the rest of the car for illegal intake, headers, exhausts, etc.... Such a pain.

Technically, based on the CARB exempt numbers, only the 6psi "Whipple" is legal.
It doesn't look like Comptech applied for the "Autorotor" supercharger, so therefore it's not technically legal in CA. That doesn't necessarily mean you won't pass. The Smog tech probably won't even care.

I searched by Manufacturer, then by "Supercharger System/Supercharger modification"
http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermkt/devices/amquery.php

EO: D-455-24 (there's a few others, but this is the latest "Comptech Machine" one)

CT-Engineering, however has applied for their ambiguous "supercharger compressor". So any supercharger unit they provide should be covered by this Exective Order:
EO: D-637

I had the CT High boost on my car for several years and never had an issue passing smog.

My carb sticker is for 455-10
http://arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermkt/devices/eo/D-455-10.pdf

It does not specify the compressor type.

Later,
Don

Interesting. It actually specifies the NOVI 1000 supercharger in the 4th paragraph (which I don't think the NSX actually uses). All other EO numbers before and after 455-10 reference the Whipple. . .

Also the note at the end of paragraph 4 that it's limited to 6psi and paragraph 7 states that any changes made to the system invalidates the EO. Don the Renegade!!

Anyway, like I said before, you should still be able to pass any sniffer and it' highly unlikely that any smog tech will notice (same way with any aftermarket headers).

Your kidding

Why not? U make it sound like duhhhhh, of course not. If a supra tt, rx7 tt, porsche t, will pass, im sure you could get an nsx turbo able to pass. The question should be it wont ever pass cause who would run cats on their f/i car to begin with. Angus if i recal was saying he could make a set up to run cats, visual wont pass, but just straight smog numbers, you will.

The question is will it pass visual inspection. Without a carb sticker it should fail.

It would also need to pass the "Emission Control Functional Tests" in section 1.5.0 to 1.5.6 (i.e. the OBD I or II check, MIL/CEL, EVAP, Ignition timing & EGR system check).
Some turbo systems may eliminate or completely bypass these factory systems (I'm thinking that standalone engine management, aggressive tuning, etc might factor in here), so it's best to look into it ahead of time before you even try.
