Just got the car back from my local go-fast crack dealer (Foreign Affair in Santa Clara). Had the CT ESM and the non-compliance toe link/beam installed. Can't really comment on the latter, as it had no noticeable effect on the street (assuming one drives with some semblance of legality).

The ESM was a huge improvement, however. Essentially, it is a knock-off of the BaschBoost SmartMap device (except more expensive!), but since I was getting a bunch of other CT stuff, I just decided to go single source. Anyway, when I originally had the high-boost kit installed on my 3.2L, the power went up by 18 RWHP but throttle response went to hell. The car was mad fast, but the part throttle -> full throttle response sucked (felt like turbo lag). With the ESM, throttle response is much sharper (but still not quite as sharp as BoneZ's highly tuned GruppeM). In summary, those of you with the older CTSC kits really need to get this or the SmartMap equivalent (I think CT is including this by default in the new kits.)

I understand the theory of why that is a better method than the check valve, but the reality is that I do not have any problems or throttle lag with my current setup. Is there any reason to upgrade if I am not having a problem?

Split Second also sells a voltage clamp: http://www.splitsec.com/products/clamps.htm

Both the Comptech and Split Second versions are adjustable. The SmartMAP model SM-300-275 is fixed (not adjustable) at 2.75V for Honda/Acura cars which IMHO is an advantage since you don't have to worry about it being misadjusted.

If your SC is working OK with the mechanical setup, then it's probably not worth messing with it. The advantage of the solid state version is simplicity, accuracy, speed, and long term reliability.

I had my CTSC 6psi installed the summer of 2000, does mine qualify as an older kit that would benefit from this ESM?

In general, I concur with BZ. If you're not experiencing any throttle response latency, then you don't NEED TO do this upgrade. When I first installed the base CTSC kit, I noticed a slight decrease in throttle responsiveness, though nothing serious. (Other CTSC owners have mentioned the same vs. the pure naturally aspirated case.) After I installed the high boost option, the throttle response became terrible. The ESM helped dramatically with that.

So with that background context, I can't say what noticeable effect the ESM would have on the standard kit, other than it should be more consistent, reliable etc. I believe that it became part of the standard SC kit earlier this year (call CT to confirm/deny), so you probably don't have one by default.
