Thinking to have comptech exhaust and SC upgrades done on my newly acquired 91 NSX. Can anyone share their experience with me having already done this? Any problems, issues or additional maintenance required afterward? Balance issues? Clutch and transmission issues, etc.? Not intending to race the car but want the added street power. If I go through with it Driving Ambition will install.
If your taking it to Shad, he can answer all of your questions thoroughly as he did with my ctsc purchase and installation.
He knows these cars and these sc systems like no other. He will perform a compression/leak down test, baseline dyno, and after install dyno. If your clutch is old I would most certainly replace it first like I did. So far my oem clutch has been smooth and trouble free going on year two with my ctsc. Also, I found the lowest price possible on a ctsc from Nopi.com Shad beat that price. I also had him do a valve adjustment, spool gaskets, valve cover gaskets, etc during the install.
I only had 2 small issues with the system so far. One being a squeaking belt, fixed by Shad by installing a gatorback belt and an end of rpm fuel cut, which was an issue with the comptech ecm which needed a reflash. Other than that, the car is so much more enjoyable with the power. Lastly, it changes the whole entire sound of the car. In a good way too...
I just had a CTSC installed on my 97 and the power boost is a blast! The only negative is the MPG drop! On my trip to NSXPO I'm getting 20 to 21 MPG when I use to get 23 -25 MPG.
It really makes the car feel fantastic. The extra to really makes the car fun. I wouldn't go with a comptech exchaust as it is too quite for me. I actually have one in my attic.
Make sure you change the fuel pump too. My 2000 was running lean at high rpm.
I could never go back to stock. I'd sell the car before I would do that.

You have a big rear wing don't you? When did you put that on? Same time as CTSC? Just seems like a big hit to mpg. I just did the NSXPO drive from Texas with my new BBSC installed and mpg was 26.
I've tracked my fuel consumption religiously for 10 years and put the CTSC on 3 years ago. After 30,000 CTSC miles, my analysis says fuel mileage went down 5% overall.
As for the CTSC, it's great, mostly. The downside is I've had 2 bearing failures on the drive belt system. First the idler pulley and more recently the lower grooved pulley. Not expensive or anything, but the last one started making noise when I was 2000 miles away which made for a nervous drive home.

Yes, both the CTSC and the Volec GT wing were installed at the same time. At first I thought the gas leak I found was the cause of poor MPG. But, even after the fuel leak was fixed, my MPG only improved a little. When I get back home next week, I'll have the whole system checked out!

Gotcha. Good you found the leak. I would think what is hurting your mpg is the big wing and not the CTSC as mentioned earlier. Those big wings are great for downforce but not mpg. A quick check would be to unbolt the wing and figure your mileage. That way you can confirm that is the issue and not some other gremlin.
I have a lo-boost CTSC system and have found no negatives (although I did bump my idles speed up a few hundred rpms). My mileage has not changed and the performance and sound (whine) are just right!
Uhm, on your long distance cruise MPG claims, what speed are you doing....I would expect a big difference between 70 and 90mph.
My hi boost CTSC with (IIRC) 650 injectors get 18mpg, regardless of speed or how or where I drive it. But I can live with that....LOL. 400rwhp does that to you.

Yes, I have been running around 80 mph in the several states along the I-10 have high speeds maximums. So, some of my poor gas mileage is due the the higher than normal speeds!
You must drive very uniformly. I get a huge range. All day of autocross gave me 7.7 mpg. A full tank on the freeway ~75 mph gave me 26.5. My overall average is 19, and these days my commute is 19 mi with 80% freeway.

Like I said, doesn't really matter how I drive it. 120mph, cruising at 60mph, redlining it through the gears, running errands. 18mpg pretty well every tank full. I track it on fuelly.com
Yes you did say that. My point is that it is not possible to get the same mpg across a range of average power outputs. Perhaps your deviations from average aren't as extended as you think. No nonhybrid car gets the same mileage on the freeway as in stop-and-go traffic.

Your MPG hit is likely due to your new aero package. Aero makes a huge difference.
When I had the factory Comptech CTSC fueling provisions I was getting +1 or +2 MPG better than stock on the FWY. Obviously, under boost that drops drastically (6-12MPG).
Lol, this thread has gone from questions about reliability of a ctsc to fuel consumption/MPG. Your all a bunch of Prius drivers!!! Hahahah....
Oh right. Well, a few months after I bought my car with 36k miles all with CTSC, the head bolts pulled the threads out of the block. So I had the engine rebuilt. Before that I had to replace the failing fuel pump. And I had another somewhat common issue of the vacuum line to the MAP sensor getting clogged with oil because the tap was on the bottom of the plenum. I also changed to an F/IC and bigger injectors because I don't like the RRFPR-based approach. And I added a water/meth spray system to manage IAT.
I like the CTSC but it hasn't been without issue. Sometimes I miss the smoothness of the stock powertrain. I'm not a huge fan of the way it sounds. I think one of the great things about the NSX sound is the induction sound and that is now gone. And it puts my car in an autocross class in which it is not competitive. But mostly I like the extra power much more than I miss or dislike anything.
