hello Folks,

Just permanately mounted 4 new wheels with tires, and now i have a space in the wheel well that could fit a can of soda. 18's all around. Guess im gonna have to lower the car. Any opinons on whatever is out there would be appreciated. Harsh ride is the biggest concern.

What tire-wheel size combo did you use? Sounds like the overall tire diameter is smaller than before.

'Just permanately mounted 4 new wheels with tires' wow I hope thats a typo and you really didnt weld your wheels to the hubs;)

hehe....that's too much!!!!

Actually, I am a little confused as well about the tire size. If the tire and wheel combo that you used leaves the overall diameter the same, then the distance between the top of the tire and the fender would also be the same as it was before. So in other words, this shouldn't be a "new" problem like you make it sound. Maybe what you mean is it's more noticable?? Please clarify.

Tire diameter formula example:

245/40 R17

245 x .40 = 98 (this is obviously in mm)

move the decimal to convert to centimeters

9.8 / 2.54 = 3.86 inches (2.54 cm for every inch)

3.86 is the height of the rubber, you have to double it for the rubber above, and below the wheel

so the overall height of the wheel and tire is:

3.86 + 17 + 3.86 = 24.72 inches

**** The above is not because I'm asuming that nobody knows this info. I just thought it may help out.

regards,

John

haha. Ok let me clarify. 1. No welding, I just kept putting them on and taking them off. Permanately meaning; I have no intention of doing that anymore. 2. Yes i guess i mean that it is more noticable. Extremely noticable where it wasnt before with stock sizes. It could be that the new wheel comes right up to the fender that if i were looking down toward the floor, the fender and outer edge of the wheel would be flush, making the gap very noticable.

Actually John, I did not know that formula and always wondered how people determine that. Thanks for the info!
