Coaching a wanker

Irony...
I was at track a few days before I saw that and was doing almost the same thing...
Pointing, guiding Speed up, Wait wait wait now go. Track out etc...
Need to make sure this is in line with what the student is interested in though.
I never grab the wheel. Never

I think a good instructor can help almost anyone.
Although some are easier to help than others.

"You never press the gas pedal until you know you never have to take it off," Jackie Stewart.

I know. I like that quote to, and have committed it to memory. :)

Great clip! Smooth is fast.

I was taught so, told so by friends who are pros and amateurs alike, and then I had a Student at the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame Track Day.

He has a Z06 and I drove him at first, he loved it (we passed a F430 and 996TT, etc. it was fun, great car)

In the afternoon, he had the chance to have his car driven by some of the Famous guys, so Elliot Forbes Robinson and Rick Bye each took him (in his car) out for a few laps.

When I got back in with him he said I was WAY WAY smoother than them!!!

I'm pretty sure I wasn't faster!

Ill say. You're faster than ONE car on track each day; the truck that drivers the corner workers around. And even that is close!!!!

I'd be faster than you're yellow aero-experiment - but you're too whipped to show up and be beat!

If you're out - I'm there!

Aka Never lift in a corner.

When you press the gas you should be able to go full throttle.

Not sure who told you that you should be able to go full throttle but it's baloney. Typically, you hold the throttle steady to the apex, then smoothly increase throttle as you unwind the steering wheel and straighten out the car. On corner exit, you're trading off lateral grip for forward grip and the only point where you can use 100% of the grip for forward motion is when you're in a straight line.

In other words, if you can go WOT at a particular point in the corner, chances are you carried (or are carrying) too little speed through the corner.

Also, smooth inputs are key to maintaining grip and getting optimal acceleration. Going WOT quickly will generally upset the balance of the car and, when cornering, that's a really bad thing.

Don, surely you're not saying that one should go full throttle though the corners!

Depends on the corner but With the OS Giken You bet!
The only way to go faster is to press on the GAS!

Brakes only slow you down...

If you're not on the gas, you're not goin' fast!!

I think the thing we should be telling people who are inexperienced and therefore vulnerable to taking your silliness seriously is:

You balance the car with the throttle up to the apex, then the Jackie Stewart, "you don't get on the gas until you know you won't have to get off" - ie. press the gas when you're confident the car is balanced and you don't/won't need to lift - therefore press it at a reasonable rate, (squeeze vs stomp)

I like that my brakes slow me down, I just wait until the last minute to use them!
