I'm in the process of looking for a new clutch my problem is that I need to know which is the best buy for the money. Dali racing use to sale the center force unit but no longer carries them. Science Speed now carries them but does not have them in stock I had the same problem with Dali never having the clutch in stock. So here I am looking again.
Can anyone tell me which clutch is really better.
ACT, Center Force, Exedy, Comptech etc. Please tell me about your experience and who sold you the clutch.
Thanks,
Mike

If you want the Centerforce call Mark Basch he is the only actual dealer of the Centerforce that I know of. Unless something has changed since the last time I spoke with CF. From what I understand he should also have these in stock.

I agree with Ken, the stock clutch is probably all you need. I run stock in one car and the ACT with a lightened flywheel in the track car, only becuause it was cheaper to get the lightened flywheel with it already attached to the rebuilt clutch (ACT). For everyday driving I prefer the stock feel. For the track, the clutches are the same, but I do like the quicker rev matching with the lightened flywheel. HTH.

I think things have changed Science Speed is now selling the Centerforce clutch as well.
Dali is no longer selling the centerforce unit.

Anyone can sell anything they want. My statement was made that I believe Basch Acura is the only authorized distributor.

Email with Centerforce.

There was more to this email but I chose to edit it down because I don't know how much of it was proprietary. If you have questions I suggest you call them. I have had the Centerforce and have nothing bad to say about it. I have had the CT and thought it was to stiff. I have also had the stock clutch, the stock by far has the easiest engagement.

The factory clutch is around $1500.00 from memory. The Centerforce is $895.00 with a refundable $250.00 core charge.

It is a high performance clutch with out the negative aspects of other high performance clutches. Increased clamp load and durability with more precise yet smooth engagement and zero shudder. It has also proven to have better reliability than other aftermarket clutches...

It's the clutch of choice and in the white car now...

Cheers,

Mike,

I've been using the Centerforce clutch for 3 years now and it still feels as good as new with no degradation in performance whatsoever.

The nice thing about this Centerforce clutch is that it engages immediately with no slipping, unlike the oem clutch, but nowhere near as harsh as one of those on/off switch type racing clutch like the Japanese made OS Giken clutch.

So, all in all, the Centerforce clutch is a high performance streetable clutch at an affordable price.

I agree with Chris totally...

Centerforce is an awesome clutch!
-Very good performance
-Reliable
-Affordable
-Great pedal feel

I have had Center force clutches in my two previous FI Hondas and my NSX for a year....never one problem ever!

Just my $.02

O.K. guys one last question, how's the installation process any know problems that a Acura tech might run into or is the process the same for a stock clutch?
Thanks
Mike

Mike,

The Centerforce is exactly the same install as the stock clutch. ACT is also the same. I installed a centerforce recently and it is smooth as glass, as Chris says, no shudder whatsoever.

Good luck on your choice.

I just got off the phone with Mark and he said he would have a centerforce clutch soon. So I guess I will wait for now. Let me know how the ACT works out for you.
Thanks,
Mike

I installed a factory 1997 Single Disc Clutch kit and I have been happy ever since. No more chatter at take-off and it has a nice pedal feel.

What kind of modification kit did you have to purchase to accomplish this?
My baby is a 1994 model
Thanks

I've been using the centerforce clutch with tilton flywheel for 3 years. I track it a lot and very happy with it.

ScienceofSpeed should be able to get it pretty fast.

There is no modification kit. These are all factory parts. They bolt right up with no problems. All you have to do is purchase the 1997 Flywheel, Flywheel bolts, Pressure Plate, Pressure plate bolts, clutch disc, throw-out bearing and have everything installed.

It is so much easier to drive the car with this clutch. Easy butter soft take offs with no chatter.

You can get a brand new Stock Clutch, Flywheel,P&TH-out bearing from Niello for $1074 if your a NSXCA Member. There is also no core fee to worry about.

The bearings cost about $125, you would need these in addition to some of aftermarket clutch kits for sale.

Oh my- All this chit chat about who sells what and to who. Heres the deal.-
1) IMO, CF builds the finest high performance clutch in the market place. I have been using them for about eight years.

2) CF has decided that because there was so much confusion with some other retailers about warranty, install instructions, and core issues, that they asked if I would like to be the sole retailer of their NSX product.
I said, "Sure" I already sold about 2 or 3 a month, and this was a chance to buy them cheaper, and hopefully sell them cheaper.

3)SoS buys CF clutches from me "wholesale", and in quantities. CF leaves me free to do bussiness with whomever I like, as long as I am willing to handle the confusing core, etc issues for his customers too. I agreed.

Sooo- you can buy one from Chris, or from me- it really doesn't matter.

PS, got eight in stock as of today.

What kind of modification kit did you have to purchase to accomplish this?

Are there advantages of the single disk clutch over the double disk clutch of the pre-97 models?

The Centerforce is $895.00 with a refundable $250.00 core charge.?

So is that $895 including a $250 core charge for an out-of-pocket cost of $645 or $895 plus a $250 core charge for an out-of-pocket cost of $895?

Oh no I need it badly!
