My clutch makes this "eeekkk" high pitched grinding sound when I am starting to move the car when I do a little bit of half clutch to get the car going. I know that's not how you are supposed to do it in the NSX but I never mastered the dump the clutch method of starting. Anyway, it's in a '94 with 53k miles, original OE clutch. Other than the noise, the clutch seems to work no different than before... some slip from 1-2 shift but otherwise no problem. Should I be worried about this? With several more track events and NSXPO trip coming up, I am a bit worried that the clutch would give up in the middle of no where. Any input would be appreciated.

Your clutch sounds like it maybe worn down possibly to the metal rivets that are holding the friction material in place since you describe a high pitch sound tht sounds like metal on metal. If you intend on attending some events where you are driving more aggressive than normal, I would probably get a new clutch, or at the minimum get it inspected.

If the friction material is worn out that much, should that not cause more slipping? I don't notice THAT much slip yet.

Are you using the recommended method of blipping the throttle slightly and then letting the clutch out as the revs are falling?

Your clutch *might* not be great, but if it is still grabbing at high speed shifts: it is probably OK. Basic clutch test: go fast (30-40 MPH), up shift to next gear, accelerate a little harder than normal and watch tach. If the tach slows down while the engine is grabbing: your clutch is probably OK.

What is probably causing the squeal is a dry throwout bearing. Pretty common. Not much you can do about it except to just drive it normally.
