Clutch pedal STUCK all the way UP!

Here is what happened:

1) Stopped and turned the car off at the store.
2) Got back in and when I pressed the clutch it fell to the floor AND made a snapping cable sound!
3) Wiggled clutch with my toe - it was loose.
4) Pulled the clutch up to the top and it got STUCK HARD.

Since the car has been home:

1) The clutch fluid was very low (not empty/dry) so I filled that up.
2) We took off the cover by the slave cylinder and the cables back there are pulling easily to the open/close positions.
3) The stuck clutch seems to be in the front of the car (master cylinder?)
4) With the clutch stuck to the top - you can SMOOTHLY SHIFT GEARS as if the clutch is engaged! (bah!)

There is no cable - this symptom is typical of a clutch hydraulic system that has had fluid leak (confirmed by your low fluid level) and the system has air in it.

Not sure what you're talking about here - the cables are for the transmission shift.

Are you talking about with the motor running or off? I can't perceive that the clutch would be permanantly disengaged?

Open the bleed nipple & see if the pedal will depress - if it does, then go ahead & bleed the hydraulic system (it will need to be done anyway)

If the pedal will still not go down, then something is wrong with the master cylinder - if it has been leaking it probably needs to be replaced anyway. My recommendation would be to replace both master & slave cylinders anyway.

Sounds like the push rod has jambed, because the hydraulics failed. Typically this should not happen, but you need to get under there and look at the linkage/rod under the pedal.

Look at the hose leading to the clutch cylinder mounted on the tranny case and see if it has failed. This is the only flexible line in the Hydraulic line for the clutch, the failure should be there or a set of seals. You should have lost enough hydraulic fluid you can trace the problem from the puddle:wink: . I agree with Larry, the stuck pedal is because the rod which connects the pedal to the master cylinder was pulled out of it's socket, and is now stuck, probably has dropped down. You should be able to check out page 12-4 in the manual and see how the parts fit together, see what is different in you set up.
