Clutch noises in neutral

I just purchased a 95 NSX and with the engine running and trans in neutral, it makes a weird mechanical groweling noise that goes away when I depress the clutch pedal. I have the 1 inch play in my pedal and wondering if anyone else experienced this. It does not do it all the time though. It does it after a long trip on the freeway. Any info would be appreciated, thanks Mike. PS I am in love with this car!
