So I installed a new clucth and i'm about ready to install the tranny. I just wnted to see how you go about installing the clutch fork? is it installed after the tranny is in? (i've never done a pull type clutch) please give me any pointers you might have..

thanks

The clutch fork should be installed before the trans goes in. There is a spring tang to hold it in the square hole for installation. This is shown in the service manual.

If you have not downloaded the manual you should, since you will need to initialize the clutch or it will not release, and you will not get the car into gear. Chapter 12

or it must at least be in inside the bell housing when the trans goes in.... you can always mess with it and get it where it needs to be afterward, or if it pops out, but def try to keep it in its bracket.... i don't know if there is enough room between the flywheel and the outer edge of the housing (where the inspection plate goes) to actually slide it in there after you've mated the trans to the engine, but i want to say that if it falls out and ends up down there you can at least use both hands to get it back into the square hole, then maneuver it into its bracket..... i think i recall having to do this (i have a horrible memory)

The fork needs to be set into the holder and stab the release bearing when the trans. case and engine is about 1 inch apart, too far, you will not able to slide the fork into the release bearing and if done right, the fork will be on the right side of trans inspection hole and have a slight play to let you know you have engage it. I remember doing this, and what a pain in the ass.

The manual well captures the requirement and how to clip the fork into the opening. It requires close attention, but done correctly should be effortless. I had no problems with my 6spd swap. As mentioned, download the manual if you haven't already. You can't simply proceed blindly on this because you worked on a couple of other clutches.
