I just picked up an 02 with 34k miles on it. The clutch hooks up at the LAST inch of travel (release)...the rest of the travel is nothing. It seems like it should hook up at the FIRST inch of travel...not the last. It doesn't slip and hooks up solid even if I am really on it. Basically it is a pain to drive like this...too much slop.

Does this sound right to you guys? Possible reason(s) whay this might be happening.

Thanks....

Absolutely normal for the NSX.
As long there is 'some' play, its oke.

The clutch pedal should have a small amount of free play (0.35 to 0.59 in). The total length of travel of the pedal should be A(5.12 to 5.31 in). When engaged the clutch pedal should be C(7.34) in from the floor. The disengagement point should be D(3.66) in from the floor.

Therefore when fully depressed the clutch pedal should be about 2 inches from the floor (C-A) and the clutch should start engaging after about 1 1/2 inches of travel. (D) - (C-A).

If your clutch engages near the end of the travel range that is an indication that it probably worn close to the point of replacement.

Only 33k miles on it. I am the 3rd owner...maybe it has been abused

My 92 had the clutch replaced less than 5,000 miles ago and it is catching at the top 1" or so. Is there any adjustment for this?

I and at least one other person have had this symptom. If you find the problem, let us know. :frown:

The NSX clutch is self adjusting so you will not see any change in height from new to warn out. I would confirm measurement "C" and then go from there. You may be able to adjust "B" which is the free play in the master cylinder push rod and make the clutch more to your taste.

The engagement point of the pedal is correct to be in the last 1" or so.

I'm not sure of the mechanics involved, but I suspect it has to do with the longer travel for a dual clutch set up.

You can easily adjust the clutch play with a single nut on the clutch master push rod. Just loosen the nut and turn the rod with your fingers (or pliers) and re-tighten.
