Climate Control - light bulb burned out

I did some searching and I have not found any info on replacing a burned out light bulb in the climate control panel. I have the climate cont. unit out, (and apart :P) and there are 2 blubs each located in a white plug that unscrews (bulb looks almost like a mini-mag flashlight bulb) The blub has long leads that thread through the white plastic piece then fold over to become the + and - contacts to the circuit board.

So my question is, is there a replacement part# for this bulb? is it the same bulb as either of the 1.4 watt lights or 3 watt bulbs in the guages/indicator lightsguage cluster? (I have not had mine out)

I can post a pic if needed, it's late and camera is not around.

Thanks in advance.

Is your climate control (CC) working properly? If so, ignore this post.

The reason I'm asking of your CC is working okay is because my display on my CC went out also. But the fan also started blowing at full and I had no control over the CC. All the buttons were inoperative. Ended up replacing the CC board located behind the display. Once I replaced the board, the display started functioning as normal.

Hopefully your only problem is just the bulbs as the CC is about $700 to replace.

Yes... everything else is working fine, (I replaced all 13 capacitors on the climate control board myself a while back). The only problem is the temp dial and the buttons on the left side (fresh air/recirculate...) don't light up. The Fan speed dial & right side buttons light up fine, as well as the rest of the dash.

I have searched the service manual, and I have found every bulb in the dash except these two. It mentions them as "climate function control switch lights" but I have yet to find a wattage value. I'm guessing somewhere around 1 watt and 12 volts?

Try checking for Osram bulbs online or at parts place. My Scorpio used something similar in the climate control backlights and if you read the fineprint on the bulb it says Osram & maybe some numbers. I think I got mine by matching up to what the dealer or import parts place had for tiny replacement bulbs.

Thanks for the response. Good ideas. The closest 'shack' is too far, so I ended up going to O'rielly's and bought the smallest bulbs they had... a #74 miniature lamp. They fit just fine into the holes in the climate control unit front panel. The leads were not long enough, so I clipped the leads off some spare resistors I had laying around and soldered them on. I soldered the extended leads directly to the circuit board instead of using the white plastic plug. I shook the unit around a litttle to make sure they were secure and they were. The new bulbs are slightly bigger and would not quite fit in the plastic holders, and I didn't want to ream them out. Someday I might find the oem bulbs and need the original holders.

I did test the new bulbs for brightness and temperature (as compared to my 1 original working bulb) and it was just the right brightness, and not any hotter.

A quick parts run, $1.60 for 2 bulbs, a few minutes of soldering and now my dash once again emits a beautifully complete array of photons :)
